Purpose of Position
The Meter reader is responsible for reading electric and water meters for Oxford Utilities. Duties include reading manual, drive-by and automated type meters. Additional duties may include troubleshooting and/or replacing meters that fail to communicate with meter reading devices.

The immediate supervisor for this position is the Service Department Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Read electric and water service meters, walk route carrying device for meters.
Clean meters by removing water, mud, ice or snow and other materials from around meters for easy access.
Report meters that need repair or maintenance.
Maintain time and attendance reports.
Maintain vehicle maintenance.
Assist in completing service orders for connection and disconnect of meter on customer accounts.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Context
The Meter Reader is a full-time, permanent position at Oxford Utilities. The immediate supervisor for this position is the Service Department Supervisor. The person is this position is supervised on a daily basis, and has no supervisory authority. The Meter Reader works regular hours year round with occasional overtime and night work when the workload demands it. There is no shift work for this position. 5% of the work for this position is indoors, and 95% is outdoors and requires work done in all type of weather conditions.
The person in this position may be occasionally exposed to hazardous conditions. This exposure includes, but is not limited to, insects, snakes, electrical wiring, and high voltage. The person in this position must have a valid driver’s license. In addition, a high school diploma or its equivalent is required. The stress level associated with this position is average. Physical work involved with this position includes frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting.
