Position Summary:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for reading and monitoring water meters, addressing customer inquiries, and ensuring accurate billing. This role involves turning water service on and off, checking for unauthorized usage, inspecting plumbing for leaks, and reporting faulty meters. The representative also handles meter lock-offs for non-payment, assists with account rechecks, and performs basic maintenance tasks. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Read water meter for billing and customer request.
Use automatic and cellular technology to read, monitor, perform data extractions and data diagnostics.
Turn water service on and off at individual meters in accordance with service work order.
Check for unauthorized usage and illegal hook-ups.
Answer customer inquiries concerning meter operations.
Inspect visible plumbing for water leakage.
Report faulty meters to utility maintenance.
Lock meters for non-payment.
Recheck unpaid accounts from disconnect list.
Prepare incoming and outgoing mail.
Remove ants, snakes, and bees from meter boxes.
Remove meter and cap water services.
Performs other job duties as assigned.
Knowledge of City's address system.
Ability to accurately read and record water meter readings.
Ability to communicate with others and the public in a professional manner.
Ability to handle complaints and difficult customers.
Skill in operating a motor vehicle.
Skill in the operation of a computer.
Ability to locate meters.
Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
Ability to operate various hand and power tools.
Ability to act independently and make logical decisions based on training.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment.
