The part-time/temporary Accountant will provide professional and technical accounting/finance assistant to support the division while regular staff are participating in a citywide data conversion and system transition. This non-benefit earning position is part time (three days/week in the office) and temporary (18 months maximum).
Provide general financial accounting and reporting assistance in accordance with GAAP and GASB
- Reconcile bank statements, prepare financial statements and perform journal entries as needed
- Assist with statistical information
- Provide research and assistance as necessary to finance staff and other departments
Support utility billing, accounts payable and payroll as necessary or assigned
- Review and approve billing and billing adjustments, refunds and penalties
- Monitor purchasing card compliance and follow up with cardholders/approvers as needed
- Enter and scan invoices
- Complete account reconciliations
Assist with budget process and publication
- Coordinate information for the online budget book
- Assist with budget components such as internal fleet and facility charges
Other duties as assigned
- Assist with tracking grant activity and working with departments to ensure compliance
- Assist in the preparation of surveys, data requests, and other annual reports as necessary
- Keep supervisor promptly informed of significant matters
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as apparent or assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Three years of accounting and/or audit experience
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and standards.
Proficient in computer programs including Microsoft Office and automated accounting systems
Demonstrated ability to perform in accordance with the City of Plymouth’s CIVIC values (customer focus, integrity, visionary, inclusion and connection) and comfort with advancing the city council’s strategic priorities.
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently on assignments and projects through completion
Desired Qualifications
Government accounting experience which may include private sector experience related to public sector organizations or GFOA/GASB education
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Very frequent (often required to perform the job): sitting or standing, stationary desk or bench work with neck bent forward, handling objects (grasping, turning or otherwise using hands or hand), repetitive hand motion (typing, using computer)
The employee must be able to lift/carry items from 0 – 5 pounds from 0 – 6 feet. Employee must be able to lift items such as files, binders, and office equipment.
Salary : $43 - $55
