What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Coordinator position at The City of Plymouth?
Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Aquatic Supervisor, this position will enhance the supervision and quality instruction provided to participants in Plymouth Parks and Recreation Aquatic Programming.
Programming Focus:
This position will be responsible for greeting and supervising patrons on deck, providing guidance and feedback for swim lesson instructors and instructor aides, lifeguard staff and site supervisors, opening and closing the facility, completing records and reports, making reservations for specialty groups, supervising daytime fitness classes, and responsible for staff training and pool operations.
This position will serve as the primary contact during early mornings three days a week, mid-morning to afternoon hours during the week and variable hours Friday-Sunday. This position is a year-round part-time position working no more than 29 hours/week.

General Recreation Programming:
Assist in scheduling, executing and supervising aquatic programming, activities and services that provide high quality leisure opportunities for all segments of Plymouth’s population. Propose, design and implement new programs, initiatives and events.
- Supervise and execute assigned programs.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and service quality to ensure outcomes are met.
- Implement program modifications to enhance the service and/or ensure quality experiences.
- Act in various capacities to support aquatic programs including acting as site supervisor, lifeguard, and swim instructor as needed.
- Work cooperatively with department staff, city staff, schools, and other agencies to establish innovative joint partnerships, creative recreation programs and entrepreneurial services.
- Inventory and maintain recreation program supplies and equipment.
Respond to public inquiries and communicates departmental procedures, programs, and other necessary information in an accurate, timely and professional manner.
- Ensure that program information is publicized and promoted effectively.
- Make program operational decisions in a timely manner (i.e. cancellations, class size adjustments).
- Handle complaints and inquiries in a courteous, polite, and professional manner.
Administrative:
Under the direction of the recreation supervisor, records data for a variety of reports or as directed for correspondence and documentation to ensure data driven quality programs and services.
Programs/Staff:
- Collect and organize data from programs, research trends and potential opportunities.
- Conduct staff orientation, training, and evaluates staff performance based on policies and procedures.
- Work with the Recreation Supervisor to collaborate with local business and deliver sponsorship opportunities or donation requests.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and supervising of temporary staff.
Budget:
- Maintain necessary records, statistics and reports to track and document budget status.
Assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be available some early mornings, some evenings and daytime weekend hours.
- Must have supervisory experience with strong leadership qualities
- Must be an experienced lifeguard
- Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or be able to achieve certifications within 60 days of hire.
- Must have demonstrated skill and proficiency with technology skills and computer experience (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, Recreation software).
Additional Certifications, as Desired
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- Water Safety Instructor
- Aqua Fitness Instructor
- Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or be able to achieve certifications within 60 days of hire.

The employee must be able to lift/carry items from 0 – 50 pounds. Items lifted/carried include program and event supplies and aquatics equipment.
