We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time lifeguard/swim instructor. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all pool patrons while also providing high-quality swim instruction to individuals of all ages and skill levels. This position requires a strong commitment to water safety, excellent communication skills, and a passion for teaching swimming.
Lifeguard duties
- Monitor pool area to ensure the safety of all patrons.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Respond quickly and effectively to any emergencies, including providing first aid and CPR as needed.
- Conduct regular inspections of pool facilities and equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of pool usage, incidents, and maintenance activities.
- Communicate effectively with pool management and other staff members to coordinate activities and address any concerns.
Swim instructor duties
- Develop and implement swim lesson plans tailored to the needs and abilities of each individual or group.
- Teach swimming techniques and water safety skills to students of all ages and skill levels.
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to help students improve their swimming abilities.
- Adapt teaching methods as necessary to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Communicate regularly with students and their parents/guardians to track progress and address any concerns.
- Collaborate with other swim instructors and staff members to coordinate class schedules and activities.
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to perform in accordance with the City of Plymouth’s CIVIC values (customer focus, integrity, visionary, inclusion and connection) and comfort with supporting and advancing the city council’s strategic priorities.
Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization (e.g., American Red Cross, YMCA).
Current Water Safety Instructor Certification from a recognized organization (e.g., American Red Cross, Starfish).
Strong swimming skills and knowledge of various swim strokes and techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations.
Patience and enthusiasm for teaching swimming to individuals of all ages.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Desired Qualifications
Experience teaching adaptive lessons
Experience working with adults training for a Triathlons
Experience teaching water exercise
2 years experience as a lifeguard
2 years experience as a swim instructor
Experience working with diverse populations
Ability to fluently speak a non-English language (in addition to English).
Salary : $25 - $33
