General Description:

The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide property maintenance and upgrades to City of Rock Hill owned buildings and property. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:


Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires four years maintenance experience or closely related experience. The equivalent combination of education, training and related work experience may be considered.


Special Certifications and Licenses:


Valid Drivers License required.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in general maintenance, construction, and repair.
  • Knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely with and around mechanized equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
  • Work is performed onsite. The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Works safely within job scope/responsibilities to repair, construct and maintain City property for all departments throughout the City.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, changing filters and belts, grease bearings and cleaning of coils.
  • Paints and repairs sheetrock.
  • Repairs toilets, sinks, faucets, showers, and cleans drains; maintains drinking fountains; cleans, repairs, and paints wall, door, trim and ceiling surfaces.
  • Cleans and maintains pressure washer equipment, hoses, spray wands and washes down equipment; changes light bulbs, light fixtures, ballasts, receptacles, light switches; pulls wires and conduit.
  • Sets up facilities and grounds for meetings and special events.
  • Plans all work by organizing work orders for each job and project as required for both internal and external customers.
  • Maintains fountains and other structures as assigned.
  • Safely drive City vehicles to various designated work sites throughout the City, as assigned.
  • Performs vehicle inspections before starting a route and after it is completed and turns in the inspection sheets to the supervisor.
  • Uses good judgment when making decisions on work that will affect other individuals.
  • Uses power tools and small to medium size equipment. Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
  • Performs all work in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, policies and procedures, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
