General Description:
The purpose of this class within the organization is to maintain and repair electric substations, traffic signals, fiber network, generators, AMI infrastructure, commercial metering, electric locates, and various smart grid technology. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires one year in electrical or mechanical maintenance or closely related experience. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and current DOT Medical Card required, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Some knowledge of practices, methods, and tools of the maintenance, electrical, and electronic trade.
- Some knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions in electrical and various mechanical trades.
- Ability to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to provide guidance and direction to Electronic Service Technician helpers, ensuring safety and protocols are followed.
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
- Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
- Work is performed onsite. The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job.
Essential Job Functions:
- This is a position on a two-person substation crew. Primary duty is to perform minor maintenance and repairs to electric substation equipment.
- This is manual and limited skilled work in providing varied services in the electric field.
- Assist in performing maintenance and installation of fiber networking systems including computers, telephones, traffic signals, Wi-Fi, commercial metering, and AMI infrastructure equipment.
- Makes minor repairs to traffic signals, load control receivers, metering and electrical substations.
- Makes minor repairs to electrical equipment, electrical wiring and fixtures.
- Operates maintenance equipment, trenchers, bucket trucks and concrete saws.
- Work in close proximity to voltages up to 25kv by following required safety procedures.
- Assists in underground locating, meter shop and generator maintenance.
- Position requires rotating and emergency call duty.
- Performs all other duties as may be required to meet organizational needs.
