Salary : JOB OVERVIEW
Entry level maintenance staff who work within an established set of procedures in performing assigned tasks. Uses tools and manual labor to maintain a wide variety of equipment, land, and buildings in West Monroe, with on-the-job training and supervision.
SPECIFIC TASKS, DUTIES, & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs work in a crew as assigned, rotating into different crews and on different schedules as needed.
Uses jackhammer and hand tools to break paved surfaces as needed for repairs (e.g., sewer, water mains, drainpipes, etc) or removal.
Repairs and / or installs water mains, sewer mains, pipes, etc., by measuring, cutting, and threading pipe; locating pipe; and installing new service lines.
Assists in the installing and repair of fire hydrants.
Operates equipment to clean sewer and storm drain lines.
Installs, repairs, and maintains water meters.
Builds forms, mixes and pours concrete for repairs to sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
Aids in traffic control through work areas as needed.
Uses, cleans, and maintains a variety of power equipment, tools, and vehicles required for work.
Cleans and maintains storm drain system, entering manholes as necessary.
Performs miscellaneous clean-up work and trash pickup from City property as necessary.
Operates dump trucks, front end loaders, and specialized vehicles to remove and replace excavated material.
Reports to work in emergencies or on a standby basis as needed.
WORKER REQUIREMENTS (education, certifications, experience, etc.)
Basic reading and writing skills for understanding instructions and paperwork.
Six months of recent work experience in construction / maintenance fields.
Knowledge of the use, purpose, and maintenance of hand tools and construction equipment; general construction and maintenance materials, method, and terminology; department standards, techniques, and procedures.
Able to perform heavy physical labor, including lifting 50 lbs or more with assistance; safely operate vehicles, tools, and power equipment; drive and operate specialized equipment and vehicles.
Ability to read simple plans, sketches, and grade stakes; perform work cooperatively with others.
HOURS / SCHEDULING
Monday Friday, 7 AM 4 PM
Available for emergency callouts on a regular basis
