POSITION DETAILS
Guttman Community College at CUNY seeks a dynamic, innovative, and student-centered specialist to oversee the development and implementation of the United Men of Color (UMOC) Program. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the Assistant Director of UMOC will supervise and is responsible for daily operations and administrative functions of the program. The incumbent implements and assesses program activities, which include student recruitment, academic programming, social-emotional programming, and structured mentoring. The Assistant Director will work towards creating community support for both entering and continuing students by building partnerships between the UMOC program and key internal and external entities, such as campus academic and student support services, donors, politicians, and community leaders, and will work closely with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni to build partnerships across the campus and University.
Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Implement student recruitment and selection strategies to fulfill program enrollment targets.
- Implement a comprehensive mentoring program for new and continuing students within the program.
- Implement an academic intervention and success program which provides individual one-on one coaching, connection to various campus resources, and tutoring support via the Academic Success Center (ASC).
- Implement academic and co-curricular programming for UMOC students in collaboration with Enrollment Management & Student Affairs (EMSA) staff, student support units, and academic programs across campus.
- Monitor the program budget and ensure accuracy of budget reports.
- Engage in the SAGE (Systematic Approach for Guttman’s Effectiveness) process to assess programs and services in accordance with institutional and CUNY Black Male Initiative goals which include increasing the enrollment and matriculation of underrepresented students, increasing retention of underrepresented students, improving the overall grade point average of underrepresented students, and increasing the graduation rate of underrepresented students.
- Provide information and referral services to those students who are not members, but who are interested in seeking services from UMOC.
- Develop a strong research agenda on issues impacting African American and Latino male college students, locally and nationally, and disseminate pertinent information to staff as well as the campus community utilizing lessons learned from UMOC and research of current best practices.
- Identify and develop appropriate proposals for external funding (which may include seeking financial support from the New York City Council).
- Prepare and submit annual and program reports as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in student personnel, social services, higher education leadership or related field preferred.
- Four years direct experience working in an education or social service environment along with experience working with at-risk youth and culturally diverse populations
- Experience in effective program planning and implementation for at-risk youth.
- Strong leadership and management skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate purposefully and effectively with faculty, staff, students and other constituencies in positive and inclusive ways.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required including Word and Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, with excellent organizational, time management and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, both as team leader and participant.
- Ability to plan, budget, allocate and manage resources.

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.
- Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
- Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

- Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
