Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. LaGuardia Community College is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified adjunct professor or Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in the Film & TV Program. The successful candidate will teach HUV 150: Art of Film and/or HUV 270: American Film in the Spring 2025 semester.

The Art of Film course explores the language of cinema, including film aesthetics, techniques, and history, while the American Film course examines the evolution of American cinema from its early years to contemporary trends. Both courses offer students opportunities to analyze films through critical, historical, and cultural lenses.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about teaching and eager to engage students in the study of film in a dynamic classroom setting.

Qualifications

For Adjunct Assistant Professor, Adjunct Associate Professor and Adjunct full Professor:

Ph.D. or Master’s degree inFilm Studies, Media Studies, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)

For Adjunct Lecturer

Bachelor's degree in Film Studies, Media Studies, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)

Other Qualifications

Experience teaching undergraduate courses, particularly in Film Studies or related disciplines preferred.

Ability to engage students in a diverse and inclusive classroom environment.

Compensation

For Adjunct Lecturer: $91.67/hour

For Adjunct Assistant Professor: $100/hour

For Adjunct Associate Professor: $108.33/hour

For Adjunct Full Professor: $112.50/hour
