The Hostos Community College Education Department's mission is to prepare competent and caring practitioners in the fields of Teacher Education, Community Health Education, Gerontology, and Physical Education. Embracing a global perspective to address the needs of all learners, the Education Department nurtures students by providing experiential learning and by fostering a holistic approach to teaching and learning. The curriculum is designed to assist students develop intellectual, communication, and workplace skills that provide a strong background to further their career and education goals. In addition, the Education Department promotes faculty engagement in research and community service.
The Health Education Unit of the Education Department seeks applications for a tenure-track, Assistant-Professor position starting the fall 2025 semester. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to teaching, research, student advisement, committee participation, curriculum development, scholarly activities, and other administrative and supervisory duties as assigned. Essential duties require on-campus presence/in-person work.
Qualifications
Earned Ph.D., Ed.D, or equivalent degree in Health Education and Promotion, Community Health, Public Health, Behavioral Health, Nutrition, and/or Health Psychology. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution
The Following Qualifications Are Preferred
$75,465 - $82,928; Salary commensurate with education and experience.

The Following Qualifications Are Preferred
- Documented teaching experience in higher education
- Demonstrated teaching success across the modalities (in-person, hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous)
- Competence and/or experience using technology as an educational tool (for example, Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)
- Experience working with diverse populations, especially underserved populations
- Professional experience in a health-related field (minimum 3 years)
- Successful evidence of scholarly activities and/or record of extramural funding
- Experience with department, school, college, and university services
- Experience providing student advisement and guidance
- Experience in administration in higher education
- Availability to teach evening and/or weekend
