The mission of the York College Human Resources department is to provide timely, accurate and effective HR-related services to our employees. The Human Resources department is an integral part of the college providing direct HR services to employees throughout the campus.
The College Assistant performs timekeeping and entry level human resources duties pertaining to general payroll inquiries, HR support services and delivers quality customer service for HR information and assistance to both internal and external constituencies. The ideal candidate will be a progressive team player engaged in the mission of York College to serve the community to the fullest extent.
Other Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
One to two years of Payroll and Timekeeping experience
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding and complex work environment
Motivated self-starter
Exceptional customer service
Excellent communication both verbal and written
Preferred
Prior payroll and timekeeping experience with CUNY, city, state or federal agency
Compensation
$20 - $23 hourly commensurate with experience

Other Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Monitors communication channels (phone, e-mail, teams, walk-ins, document portal, etc.) for payroll-related matters, follows indicated resolution steps, refers issues upward as needed, and communicates with employees regarding the status of cases.
- Tracks and monitors time and leave for full-time employees and instructional staff; reviews timesheets for basic accuracy and enters information into the time and leave system and CUNYFirst.
- Submits supporting documents and basic information to Central Office Payroll and State Payroll Office for further processing.
- Reviews employee records in the systems of record (Payserv, CUNYfirst, HR-Assist) and refers for update as appropriate; performs data entry tasks under supervision.
- Coordinates with local stakeholders to ensure submission of campus compensation data for further processing.
- May calculate and process overtime, shift differentials, and holiday pay for assigned employee groups with oversight from higher-level staff.
- Performs periodic audits of payroll transactions for accuracy under supervision; reports any discrepancies or inconsistencies to the team lead for further action.
- Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
