CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) is seeking a College Laboratory Technician (CLT). Under the direction of the department chairperson, the CLT will work closely with department faculty to support, plan, and execute practical laboratory exercises for the learning objectives of department courses. They will handle laboratory resources, including staff, equipment, supplies, living and preserved organisms, and budget. They will reallocate resources, which may include preparing and/or relocating laboratory supplies, equipment, staff, and/or living/preserved organisms, as needed.
Typical Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with use and maintenance of various core chemistry laboratory equipment, such as NMR, Mass Spec, IR, and UV.
COMPENSATION
$47,509 - $60,829; Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Typical Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:
- Prepare and maintain all materials for laboratory classes, including but not limited to: reagents, solutions, and related equipment.
- Provide support for laboratory instructors. Ensure that prior to the start of each laboratory class, each room is fully stocked with all required materials, equipment, supplies, cultures, and stocks as designated. The classroom/laboratory should also be cleaned appropriately following use.
- Maintain specialized instructional equipment used for laboratory exercises, ensuring its safe storage and safe use.
- Track and manage an inventory of all equipment and supplies so that repairs, maintenance, and replacements can be ordered in a timely fashion. When appropriate, contact specialty vendors concerning the availability, pricing of items and initiate orders.
- Participates in Equipment Maintenance Activities (ie, liquid nitrogen filling of NMR).
- Prepare and edit laboratory preparation manuals and review new laboratory exercises.
- Perform other lab-related duties as assigned by department chairperson or chief college laboratory technician.
