The Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences invites applications for a full-time lecturer/doctoral lecturer position in the Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences within the Health Education and Promotion program, beginning Spring 2026. Candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The successful candidate is expected to participate fully in the life of the Program, Department, College, and University by teaching Health Education Promotion (HEP) courses through wide ranging modalities (i.e. in-person, online, hybrid, daytime, evening, weekend); mentoring and advising students; providingstrategic leadership and program administration; participating incommittee work; and contributing generally to the intellectually vibrant environment of the Program and Department. The position’s focus is on the undergraduate degree programs, but the successful candidate can participate in the HEP online graduate programs as well.
The program in Health Education and Promotion is currently housed in the Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences, which is part of the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing (HS2N).The program offers a B.S. degree with two specializations (Community Health and Community Health & Nutrition), preparing graduates for careers in a variety of settings including hospitals, non-profit and government agencies. Eligible majors can participate in a Dual-Credit Option towards the department's fully online 33-credit M.A. degree which provides advanced training for health educators in community, academic, clinical and corporate settings. Both B.S. and M.A. graduates are eligible to sit for the Health Education Specialist certification (CHES/MCHES) exam administered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. The department also offers anM.S.Ed. leading toNew York State Initial or Professional Certification in Health Education (Pre K-12)and an 18-credit Advanced Certificate providing NYS Health Education certification for educators with existingMaster'sdegrees.
The School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing currently includes six departments: Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences;Exercise Science and Recreation; Health Equity, Administration & Technology;Social Work; Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, and Nursing. The school is also home to the CUNY Institute for Health Equity. Departments in the School actively engage with community and government partners to support evidence-based practices and health equity, with a special emphasis on urban populations. Faculty are also strongly committed to high quality teaching and preparation of ethical and skilled health and human service professionals.
Qualifications
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, or Community Health (or closely related degree that aligns with CHES Responsibilities) orBachelor’sdegree in the above areas plus at least 2 years of related professional experience, proven administrative and leadership skills, ability to successfully teachthrough diverse modalities. Also required are demonstrated experience working in a large and diverse program and the ability to collaborate with others for the good of the institution. Experience with CHES standards, demonstrated experience in health communication, advocacy, and community health program planning and implementation is preferred.
Compensation
This compensation is based on the New Union contract that becomes effective on 9/1/2025.
