POSITION DETAILS
This position is based at Bronx Community College and is primarily focused on enhancing career readiness for BCC students with disabilities, as well as job development for all CUNY LEADS students—with priority given to students with disabilities. The role also includes advocacy, support, and facilitation of access to on- and off-campus resources for students with disabilities.
Reporting to the Director of the Disability Services Office, this position provides students in the CUNY LEADS (Linking Employment, Academics, and Disability Services) program with the guidance and support necessary to make informed academic and career decisions that lead to successful employment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
Evaluate the needs of students with disabilities and develop a range of appropriate services to support their success.
Recruit CUNY students into the LEADS program based on established eligibility criteria.
Collaborate with community agencies and Bronx Community College administration to increase the visibility and effectiveness of the Disability Services Office.
Serve as the campus liaison to ACCESS-VR.
Conduct group workshops and provide individualized support on topics such as resume writing, interview preparation, self-advocacy, and disability disclosure in the workplace.
Advise students on job readiness and placement, and guide them in aligning academic programs with both short- and long-term career goals.
Promote and support the development and implementation of programs—both on and off campus—that enhance the retention and graduation rates of students with disabilities.
Assist in the provision of assistive technology and conduct assessments as needed.
Serve as a student club advisor and support the development of advocacy and leadership skills for students with disabilities.
Provide monthly progress reports to the Director of the Disability Services Office.
Participate in the daily operations of the Disability Services Office.
Collaborate with other LEADS professionals on university-wide communications and initiatives.
Coordinate services with other college units, including disability and career services offices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree and experience working in academic, career advisement or job placement functions with students with disabilities preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; should demonstrate proficiency in computer and database skills. Prefer experience serving individuals from cross-disability backgrounds and knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act and other key disability legislation.
