Job Description Summary
The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of the organization. The nurse maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The nurse facilitates the coordination of patient care within the interdisciplinary care team and provides patient education to ensure safe patient discharge.
Job Description
- Perform daily rounds on all patients, ensuring quality customer service by coordinating and addressing any unmet needs.
- Develop a plan of care based on assessments, reflecting the patient's physical, psychological, social, educational, developmental, and rehabilitative needs considering age, ethnic origin, economic status, lifestyle, creed, or philosophical beliefs.
- Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs, set goals, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the patient’s needs, including discharge planning.
- Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient’s self-report/symptoms of pain promptly and take appropriate action in line with standard operating procedures.
- Identify early warning signs of a change in the patient’s condition and respond appropriately to deterioration, including contacting responsible clinicians as necessary. Assist with or initiate emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in the patient's condition.
- Report pertinent observations and reactions to the appropriate multidisciplinary team members, ensuring accurate and concise documentation of all observations. Ensure timely intervention or referrals are made, and submit all incident reports (patient, visitor, staff) prior to the end of each shift.
- Establish and maintain communication with patients and their significant others, providing educational opportunities.
- Initiate discharge planning early, providing education and counseling based on identified needs to optimize patient/family understanding. Evaluate and document progress in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Assign or delegate nursing interventions to other competent personnel within the scope of practice, education, and experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Notes
- A temporary RN license is accepted prior to the start date.
- Must hold an unencumbered nursing license prior to start.
- For RN Residency Cohort: ND RN Graduate Work Authorization is considered prior to the start. The RN Graduate Work Authorization is valid for up to 90 days after issue or upon notification of NCLEX results, whichever occurs first.
