FULL-TIME SALARY RANGE: $56,500-$64,000*
*Actual starting pay rate will be determined after a review of the work experience provided on the job application and resume).This position may be hired as two part time positions or one full time position.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Occupational Therapist provides specialized services and programming for students with disabilities who are eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Act and the Colorado Exceptional Children’s Education Act. The Occupational Therapist provides individualized or group instruction to develop educationally related fine motor, visual motor, visual perceptual, sensorimotor, and/or self-help skills as determined by the student’s Individual Education Program. Occupational Therapists promote functional independence and access to the educational environment through goal directed activities that are educationally relevant.

Reports to the Director of Student Support Services

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides integration of Occupational Therapy principles and concepts into classroom curricula by collaborating with teachers and other service providers Assist or instruct fine, gross and visual motor skills
Assist or instruct sensory processing and visual processing skills
Functional communication through alternative methods with needed
Recommends adaptive equipment, and provides training in the use of necessary equipment or strategies to support students, student’s family and educational staff
Completes student assessments to determine fine motor, visual motor, visual perceptual, sensorimotor, and/or self-help skills impact on access to school environment and education.
Prepares for student Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings through collaboration with staff, interpretation of assessments, and appropriate documentation.
Actively participates in IEP meetings.
Attends parent conferences and other meetings as needed or requested.
Provides direct support to students to address educational needs identified by multidisciplinary team.
Provides on-going consultation with school staff and parents in support of access to special education programming.
Prepares reports and other documentation to assure accountability, including Medicaid billing.
Follows all state and federal regulations related to Special Service Providers.
Documents each student’s progress as measured by functional education outcomes for the student’s IEP
Attends and arrives for work consistently and on time
Performs other duties as requested from Director of Student Support Services
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist other members of the Student Support Services multidisciplinary team as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
Bachelor's Degree required
Valid Colorado professional license School Occupational Therapist 0-21 required
NBCOT certification required
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the school setting preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of how Occupational Therapy principles and concepts can be integrated into the classroom curricula in the areas of sensory and motor readiness
Participate on the multi-disciplinary team to identify students with learning disabilities
Inform students with disabilities and families of outside agencies, specialists, and other resources when appropriate
Demonstrate the ability to work with students of all ages
Maintain confidentiality of all records and information
Advocate for students’ needs
Ensure student rights under IDEA
Initiate contact with parents and serve as a liaison
Keep current on Federal and State special education laws, procedures, and district policies and procedures
