What are the responsibilities and job description for the Looking for Experienced Potters to Help Instruct in Exchange for Membership at New Giant Studio position at The Clay Hole?
THE JOB:
I am looking for someone who wants to come be part of our new, giant, incredible pottery studio (The Clay Hole). During each class, I would like to have 1-2 members who are there to work on their own stuff, and also there to jump in and help other students learn the pottery process when the instructor is tied up. In exchange for that, I'll be giving these people full membership to The Clay Hole, but no hourly wage.
WHO I AM AND WHAT IS THE CLAY HOLE:
My name is Dan Pearce. Millions follow me on social media for my pottery. I have a private studio and have been running a couple classes myself the last few years, and I am now opening a MASSIVE pottery and art studio in Draper called The Clay Hole.
This new pottery studio is the most loaded state-of-the-art pottery studio you'll ever walk into. More than 500 different commercial glazes, thousands of tools, lounge areas, game areas, artist workshops, etc, and the whole things is just going to be... epic. If you love pottery, having access to the studio is reason enough to take this opportunity.
What I need from you:
- I need you to either... be good on the pottery wheel (with various forms and speed), able to throw up to 5-6 lbs at least with ease.
- Or, I need you to be proficient and able to teach all other major ceramics skills including: slab rolling, slump/hump molds, hand-building, glazing, etc. Less important (but a bonus) is sculpting and slip casting. Every night we will have one instructor on the pottery wheel side and one on the hand-building side.
- I need you to be an awesome and helpfully charismatic personality who isn't afraid to jump in, converse, instruct, guide, and keep the community aspect of my classes strong. The communities we build in these classes is everything.
- I need you to be reliable.
- I need you to be available from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM (sometimes you'll be there a little later as students wrap-up) on the night you are assigned.
- I need you to be honest. Always. Without fail.
- I need you to have a deep love and passion for pottery and ceramics.
- I need you to enjoy and thrive in a laid back community environment. This isn't your grandma's pottery studio. Students bring (ahem) beverages to share, there aren't a lot of language filters, etc.
I'm looking for someone who can start when we launch classes the first week of March. It's important/crucial you're there for the first nights of each class every single month when new students come in.
IF YOU'RE INTERESTED:
Submit an application and a note telling me about you and your experience with pottery. If I think you'll be a good fit, we'll have a FaceTime interview. If you still seem like a good fit, I'll need you to come in for a second interview and to show me that you have proficiency in the studio and in a teaching scenario.
THINK LONG-TERM:
If you know you are only in it for the short-term, please don't apply.
PERKS:
As my trade-off employee, you will have access to the studio for your own personal projects both during your class and another night each week if you want to attend another class as a member. There will be a lot of helping at first, and once classes are rolling and students are doing their own thing, there is usually plenty of time to work on your own stuff during class.
COMING FROM ANOTHER POTTERY STUDIO?
I bet you'd agree that the more experienced potters in a class the better it is for everyone. If you can show me proof that you're currently a member or instructor at another pottery studio, I will give you your first month absolutely free if you'll come join us starting in March. That's how much faith I have that you'll never want to do pottery anywhere else!
