HBIC's non-public school (NPS) program and Adult Day Program (ADP) are intimate, yet highly active environments, with significant support from all facets of the program and non-profit "parent" organization. 1967 - Founder, Cleta J. Harder and a group of caring volunteers opened a location in Brea’s Pioneer Hall to provide assistance to a neighbor's child with a disability. Help for Brain Injured Children (HBIC) was born; and so, began the mission of “Giving Hope” to individuals with disabilities and their families. Eventually HBIC settled in a La Habra location and received its official 501(c)3 status in 1972. The Cleta Harder Developmental School (CHDS) was then established and certified by the State of CA Board of Education as a Non-Public School (NPS), followed by the development of The HBIC Adult Day Program (APD) at "Emily's Place." To this day, HBIC has provided support to countless individuals with disabilities and their families throughout the Southern California region, while consulting with families and professionals worldwide. HBIC recognizes that everyone is unique, with their own challenges in coping with the demands of society and believes that everyone should be afforded the opportunity to reach their full potential. It is our philosophy that “all individuals have the right and the ability to learn.” Please provide a resume, CPR / First Aid Card, and proof of education.
