Your role at Clorox:

The Clorox Company is seeking a qualified candidate for an Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Technician (EIC Tech) position at our Atlanta Main facility. The primary role of the EIC Technician will be to oversee for the successful operation of all electrically controlled devices in a safe manner. Following all Clorox Plant safety rules, eliminating safety risks present in systems, troubleshooting electrical and control problems, ensuring accurate hardware and software configurations for devices, ensure proper functioning of devices, use of the most current programs, performing PM's, ensuring stock of critical spares, inputting data into the CMMS system, executing work orders, backing up programs and keeping prints and manuals up-to-date.

Starting Hourly rate: $38.47. Offering an excellent compensation and benefits package. M-F (6am-2:30pm).

In this role, you will:

  • Troubleshoot basic electrical problems throughout the plant. This includes taking voltage and amp readings, tracing wiring, evaluating relays, testing motors, evaluating health of wiring, checking breakers and fuses, evaluating sensors, and determining the health of valves. If a problem is found, determine the proper course of action, and safely implement it.
  • Troubleshooting PLC problems. This includes connecting to the PLC, determining what component in the PLC or external to it is not functioning properly, determining the course of action, and safely implementing it. To do this, the technician needs to have a detailed understanding of the programs in the plant, the controls associated with each system and all the PLC product lines we use.
  • Some examples of PLC’s in the plant are:
  • Allen Bradley ControlLogix using RSLogix 5000 and StudioLogix 5000
  • Allen Bradley PLC-5 series using RSLogix 5
  • Allen Bradley SLC-500/MicroLogix series Using RSLogix 500
  • Troubleshooting motor and motor control problems. This includes determining if a motor, a motor starter, run relay, VFD or servo motor is functioning properly and is configured properly. If there is a problem, determine the proper course of action and safely implement it. The technician needs to have a thorough knowledge of all VFD’s, and Servo motors used in the plant.
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical equipment including but not limited to: motors (all types), starters, breakers, transformers, isolation switches, relays, fuses, resistors, air conditioning, valves, AC Drives, DC Drives, electrical cable, fiber optic cable, coaxial cable, conduit, receptacles, PLCs, heaters, control panels, lights & lighting panels, distributive controls, UPS, fire & emergency alarms, utility controls, disposal of bulbs, and other hazardous material.
  • Troubleshoot problems with HMI's software and hardware. Isolate the problem, determine the proper course of action, and safely implement it.
  • Some examples of HMI’s in the plant are:
  • Allen Bradley PanelView using Factory Talk ME
  • Allen Bradley PC based applications using Factory Talk SE
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation equipment including but not limited to: transmitters (all types), valves, I/P, positioners, actuators, dampers, flow meters, and level sensors.
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain mechanical equipment including but not limited to pumps, pump & motor alignment, hydraulic, pneumatic, and conveyors.
  • Troubleshoot control network problems. Understand the architecture and parameters of the network for PLC's and Process databases and be able to fix the problems that will arise. This is to include wiring problems, corrupted file problems, failed component problems, and set-up problems. troubleshoot and configure the following communications networks and protocols:
  • EtherNet/IP
  • Remote I/O
  • Troubleshoot problems with quality inspection systems, case coding, and bottle coding systems. Resolve accurate course of action and safely implement it.
  • Maintain all electrical prints for all the systems that have been assigned. This is to include a copy at the panel, a copy in the central library, and a copy in a software format on the network. Ensure any modifications are reflected on all three copies and the revision date, reason, and person modifying are recorded.
  • Maintain all PLC programs for all the systems assigned. This is to include a copy at the panel, a copy in the central library and a disc back-up of the program.
  • Maintain all parameters for all VFD's and HMI's for the systems assigned. This is to include a copy at the VFD or HMI location, a copy in the central files and a copy in a software format on the network.
  • Determine all the parts needed for the systems assigned to him/her, determine their criticality, and ensure needed parts are in stock.
  • Provide electrical support to capital and internal projects. This is to include job walks, prints, job scopes, managing contractors and participating in meetings. Further, drive upgrades to the control systems in the plant.
  • Ensure compliance with the Controls Change Management System where non-emergency changes are approved and documented prior to the change being made.
  • Assist with training and sharing knowledge, experience, and learnings with other team members.
  • All paperwork must be completed, entered on the computer, and turned in daily before leaving.
  • Clean the work area after each job (no oily rags, loose nuts and bolts, metal shavings, pieces of wire, etc.). Also clean your workstation daily.
  • Maintain proper tools in good working condition - request new items as needed.
  • Perform basic mechanical work as needed; learn mechanical skills as needed.
  • Ensures that safety needs are given a top priority in all work performed.

Knowledge and ability to be able to troubleshoot the following systems properly and safely:

  • Control Panels Using Relay Logic
  • Cam Driven Switch Boxes
  • Heat and Humidity Control Systems
  • Process control valves
  • Pneumatic Control Systems
  • Hydraulic Control Systems
  • Case and bottle Coding Systems.

Knowledge of and ability to work with and troubleshoot the following motor control equipment properly and safely. Such items include, but are not restricted to:

  • Motor Starters
  • Run Relays
  • Variable Frequency Drives
  • Servo Motors and Controls

Knowledge of and ability to work with and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC's to include the following:

  • Connecting to the PLC
  • Reading/Modifying Ladder Logic
  • Diagnosing Hardware Problems
  • Diagnosing Software Problems.

Education and Work Experience:

Industrial experience with fillers, cappers, labelers, conveyors, case packers, palletizers, blow molders, and/or other automated packaging equipment are not required but are considered highly desirable..

OR successful completion of a two (2) year college curriculum in technical areas OR vocational school certificates of completion of training in mechanical/electrical technical areas. Other vendor courses electrical/controls are desirable and may be considered as experience. Wide exposure to various technical areas during past work experiences will be evaluated on an individual basis.
