Bar Manager/Sommelier
Reports to: Food & Beverage Director
Classification: Full Time/Year-Round/Exempt
Compensation: $70,000-$80,000/annually
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Bar Manager/Sommelier to oversee and elevate our club’s bar operations across multiple outlets. This position demands an individual with deep expertise in wines and beverages, excellent customer service abilities, and a proven track record of leadership in a fast-paced, high-end environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to exceptional hospitality, creativity in cocktail development, and a keen eye for operational excellence. As a Sommelier, you will play an integral role in enhancing the guest experience, offering expert wine recommendations, creating sophisticated pairings, and facilitating exclusive tableside wine tastings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of bar operations, including inventory management, staff oversight, and member/guest interactions, ensuring an elevated experience at every touchpoint.
- Develop and enforce best-in-class bar policies, procedures, and systems that maintain operational efficiency while promoting outstanding service.
- Curate innovative and visually stunning drink menus, staying ahead of trends and continually pushing the boundaries of beverage preparation.
- Monitor and optimize beverage costs to achieve financial targets and maximize profitability, without compromising quality or service.
- Train, mentor, and inspire a high-performing bar team, ensuring they are well-versed in service excellence, drink preparation, and hospitality standards.
- Ensure full compliance with all local and state alcohol laws and regulations, ensuring safe and responsible service at all times.
- Collaborate with the private events team and F&B Director to design bespoke cocktail offerings and wine pairings for special events and functions, elevating the guest experience.
- Act as a brand ambassador, fostering long-term relationships with members and guests through personalized, memorable interactions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Certification as a Sommelier or demonstrated in-depth knowledge of global wines and beverages.
- At least 3 years of experience in high-volume bar management, with a strong background in fine dining and luxury hospitality environments.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, inspire, and manage a diverse, high-energy team.
- Exceptional bartending skills with an advanced understanding of classic and contemporary drink recipes and preparation techniques.
- Strong experience in recruitment, training, and developing new staff members to align with service excellence standards.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, maintaining the highest level of attention to detail.
- Outstanding communication skills, with a natural ability to engage with guests, team members, and other departments.
- Flexibility and availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special club events.
