Our name "Kukui`ula" is the place name of our location on Kauai's southern shore, near world-famous Poipu Beach. Kukui`ula comes from two Hawaiian words: kukui, or candlenut - a traditional Hawaiian source for lighting oil - and 'ula, which means "red". In ancient Kauai, Kukui`ula served as a place to burn the kukui nut oil at night, its red glow guiding seafarers safely back to shore.

Role Overview

The Propagation Enhancement Foreperson at The Club at Kukuiula plays a vital role in supporting club and lodging renovation projects by planning and executing the propagation of high-quality plant materials. This role oversees a propagation crew and ensures the supply of color plants, groundcover, and other live materials needed for landscaping enhancements. The Foreperson sources propagation material from both internal and external partners, including growers and seed companies, while maintaining a safe, productive work environment and providing exceptional horticultural guidance. The ideal candidate leads by example, aligns with Kukuiula's standards of service and professionalism, and contributes to creating a distinctive landscape experience for members, guests, and residents.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of plant propagation techniques (cuttings, seed germination, divisions)
• At least 2 years of landscape supervisory experience
• Knowledge of fertilizers and landscape chemicals
• Understanding of residential landscape irrigation systems and schedules
• Ability to identify and resolve plant/growing issues
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team
• Familiarity with plant import regulations and weed risk assessment in Hawaii
• Computer literacy (email, ordering, communication)

Requirements

• Valid State Driver's License
• Landscape Certification (preferred but not required)
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments
• Comfortable with exposure to loud noises, chemicals, weather, and physical labor
• Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, standing, walking, bending, and operating equipment for extended periods
• Strong visual acuity, depth perception, and use of safety gear
• Must be able to read and interpret grower availability lists and plant names
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions
• Exposure to chemicals, dust, and loud machinery
• Requires manual labor, including heavy lifting and equipment operation
• Extended physical activity throughout the day

Salary

$25.50 to $30.00 USD hourly
