Summary:
The lead barista has proven ability to provide quality customer service and demonstrated knowledge of coffee products, equipment, tea and tobacco products. The lead barista has responsibility for serving all products with friendly, individualized attention towards each customer. They are also responsible for making a difference to our customers by educating them about our premium coffees, teas and tobaccos. Lead baristas are instrumental in building customer relationships and fostering a positive and friendly store environment. They also provide technical guidance to new team members and assist in the training program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Lead Barista:
- Educates our customers on the superior quality of our products and services.
- Weighs, grinds and packs coffee per customers orders according to Company guidelines.
- Sells and serves baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers.
- Sells and serves products to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Continues to learn and educate themselves on whole bean knowledge, coffee blends, tea products, bakery items, coffee brewing, and blended products.
- Assist in the development of sales promotions for in-store and social media platforms. Informs, and trains staff, of upcoming sales events.
- Safely handles all hot and cold drinks during drink preparation.
- Maintains the highest quality, consistent product standards.
- Follows all Company drink recipes and procedures.
- Identifies, and corrects, any operational inconsistencies.
- Assist the Manager in ordering all products for The Coffee Point and Tobacco Trailer.
- Assists in the distribution of weekly shipments and maintains a clean and organized storage area, for both coffee and tobacco products.
- Assist the Manager with processing damaged, and expired, product for return to vendor.
- Assist the Manager in reporting of potential safety hazards to the Director.
- Assist the Manager in reporting all employee accidents to the HR Manager and Director.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Service:
- Greets all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develops a rapport with our customers by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items.
- Verbally receives and calls back customer orders in a friendly manner.
- Assist the Manager with addressing all customer complaints to the benefits of both the customer, The Coffee Point and Tobacco Trailer.
- Responds proactively to prevent customer service situations.
- Accurately rings sales orders into cash register and counts back change to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Answers telephone in a courteous and friendly manner including, but not limited to, giving store greeting, directions to store location, and receiving and filling customer orders.
- Answers customer questions regarding coffee blends, preparation, and product freshness.
- Weighs, grinds and packs coffee per customers orders according to Company guidelines.
- Sells and serves baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers.
- Maintains efficient, friendly service standards and demonstrates such standards when training other team members.
Education and Experience:
- All applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
- Twelve months experience as a Lead or supervisor.
- Twelve months experience in the barista field.
- Strong retail operations knowledge, including retail POS systems, merchandising, and customer service.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Experience in food and beverage preparation.
- Training and willingness to continue learning regarding food and beverage preparation.
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
- Effective communication; written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer and software experience using MS Office products.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Organized and professional. Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure/ able to diffuse tense situations with unhappy customers.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear.
- Regularly required to lift and / or move items up to 30 pounds.
- All applicants must be at least 18 years of age with no prior felony offenses.
- Must pass extensive criminal background check and drug screening.
