Position Summary:
The Office of Campus Police Services provides for the overall safety and security of the institution, including the community and property of the institution.Campus Police ensures the enforcement of the laws, ordinances, rules and regulations for the State of New Jersey, the Township of Ewing and the College of New Jersey.The College of New Jersey Campus Police is committed to providing community policing consistent with the mission of the College, public service, excellence and professionalism at all times in service to the community.

Main Responsibilities:
- Under supervision of a Campus Police Sergeant, Lieutenant or other supervisory officer and in cooperation with municipal, county and state law enforcement officers provides for the safety and assistance of persons and visitors on campus. Participates in vehicle and foot patrol, traffic control and conducting investigations on campus. Ensures consistency in the quality of work, timely accurate reports and enforcement. Maintains accountability for all vehicles and equipment in his/her use.Promotes an atmosphere of teamwork and community policing, by fostering and maintaining professional relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff and students. Ensures courteous and fair dealings with all members of the public.
- Takes part in police activities intended to provide a safe and secure campus environment, to provide order, maintenance, assistance and protection of persons and property. To ensure the observance of the law and college rules and regulations.
- Conducts foot and vehicle patrol to detect security problems, safety hazards and to providesurveillance of campus or assigned areas.
- Takes appropriate action to safeguard lives and property of the campus or portions thereof.Checks conditions of buildings and takes steps to protect them from criminal damage and theft.
- Executes official documents e.g. warrants, summonses, subpoenas, etc., as directed when necessary. Completes and records necessary forms, fingerprints, photographs, etc. to document arrests, investigations and complaints.Other work as required.
- Maintains a working knowledge of job related laws, statutes and codes. To include but not limited to United States and New Jersey Constitutional Law, criminal law, policies, procedures, traffic and vehicle law, departmentalpolicies andprocedures,county law enforcement policies and procedures, Township ordinances, college policy, rules and regulations. Maintains the ability of applying this knowledge during the performance of his/her duties and in directing personnel under his/her command.
- Graduation from a high school or vocational high school or possession of an approved high school equivalent certificate.
- Police Training Certification.
- Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in NJ.
- As a prerequisite for appointment, appointees are be required to pass a thorough medical examination,psychological test, drug test .
- Receive PTC Police Training Commission Certification .
Employer Qualifications:
- Final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and reference checks.
- Residency Requirement: In accordance with the New Jersey First Act P.L. 2011 c.70, effective September 1, 2011, new public employees in certain positions (faculty exempt) are required to obtain New Jersey residency within one (1) year of employment. Applicants must meet the requirements listed.
