The Department of Online Counselor Education is seeking candidates for the Clinical Coordinator role.

Located within the School of Graduate, Global and Online Education, the Department of Online Counselor Education offers a MA in clinical mental health counseling as well as a certificate program in clinical mental health counseling. The department faculty values and practices a student-centered approach in preparing the next generations of counselors and demonstrates strong commitment to diversity and human rights.

Position Summary :

This position will be responsible for supporting our student population in identifying and securing clinical experiences for practicum and internship. This involves building a robust network of clinical sites both within and outside of the state of New Jersey. Relationship building and community engagement are substantial parts of this role. The position of Clinical Coordinator includes projects that are critical to the Department of Online Counselor Education and that require administrative coordination and oversight. These are year-round responsibilities, as courses are offered fall, spring, and summer, and students are in the clinical field 12 months a year.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Mentors students to help find their practicum / internship sites immediately upon enrollment in the program.
  • Hosts three clinical Practicum orientations each year to introduce students who will soon be eligible to start their clinical experience to the requirements associated with starting their Practicum and with completing the paperwork necessary to select their site.
  • Develops and maintains the Clinical Manual, including the development of revisions associated with changes in the codes of ethics, accreditation standards and legislation relevant to the profession and each potential license for our students.
  • Recruits potential sites to accept interns, both in NJ and nationally.
  • Supervises student progress in practicum and internship through oversight of the Supervision Assist platform.

  • Administrative coordination and oversight of all student clinical experiences.
  • Responding to inquiries from students, faculty, administrators, and external professionals regarding the clinical program.

    Overseeing ongoing, systematic CACREP assessments, curricular evaluation, and program improvement efforts within the department as related to student clinical experiences.

    Required Qualifications :

  • A Masters-degree in counseling or related field from an accredited higher education institution and an active clinical license.
  • Training / certification in clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management or coordination.
  • Experience working in higher education is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in clinical mental health counseling.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability and flexibility to learn new skills as different duties may arise.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office software (including web-based tools, and Google Suite) and technology (such as multi-function printers, and phone systems) and the ability to learn and administer technology related to clinical coordination (such as Supervision Assist).
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member. At times the work is fast-paced and requires tight deadlines. The position requires an individual who can handle this type of high-intensity work environment and work in a collegial and calm manner while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, and grace in handling and managing sensitive student and faculty issues.

    Preferred Qualifications :

    Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) certification; experience providing clinical supervision to counseling interns or practicum students; familiarity with CACREP, organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and adhere to institutional and department deadlines; and experience using Oracle, PeopleSoft, CANVAS, and PAWS software systems.
