The Career and Community Studies Program/School of Education is seeking candidates for Teaching Assistant positions for the Pre-College Summer Program for Summer 2025.
We are currently seeking staff for a summer residential program for New Jersey high school students ages 16-21 with intellectual/developmental disabilities. This program is designed to offer eligible and accepted New Jersey students an opportunity to participate in a 10 day/9 night on-campus 2025 summer session. Program participants will be provided with an authentic opportunity to explore college life through a rigorous schedule of on-going transition planning based on person-centered thinking; academic classes focusing on literacy, numeracy & critical thinking; supported/facilitated social-emotional development; career/vocational exploration/discovery with an emphasis on pre-employment transition services; and guidance through skills of self-direction and self-determination. Staff will work two sessions of the program: 7/8/25-7/17/25 and 7/21/25-7/30/25.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist the academic instructor in implementing adapted curriculum for students.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students during lessons and activities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Help with the assessment and documentation of students' progress.
- Support students in developing social skills and peer interactions.
- Collaborate with the instructor and other staff to create a cohesive learning experience.
- Assist in planning and organizing accessible activities that reinforce academic and life skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have experience mentoring and working with youths with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
- Must have experience in mentoring youths in transition planning.
