Additional responsibilities may be assigned in areas such as teaching, game management, committee work, and administration. Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees all aspects of the defensive unit, including organizing, implementing, and installing defensive strategies, supervising the defensive coaching staff, managing video and computer breakdowns for games and practices, and developing game plans, scouting reports, and practice plans.
- Participates in planning, development, and direction of all team training and conditioning activities to maintain the program’s position of competitive leadership in the North Coast Athletic Conference and the NCAA Division III.
- Oversees preparation and implementation of scouting reports, game film, film breakdown, and film exchange for the defensive unit.
- Contributes to developing a recruitment strategy for prospective student athletes, informing prospects of academic programs, talent evaluations, coordinating mailings, telephone calls, text messages, and email exchanges.
- Coordinates recruiting of all defensive positions, specifically evaluate and rank all the defensive prospects.
- Supports recruiting academically and athletically strong applicants for the selective and competitive applicant pool at The College of Wooster in partnership with the Office of Admissions.
- Performs administrative operations including budgeting, team travel, room reservations, meals, and equipment procurement (in coordination with Purchasing).
- In partnership with the Office of Advancement, assists the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a strong alumni and parent support system and assists with fundraising efforts.
- Assists in developing a strong social media platform.
- Engages team members in community service activities.
- All coaches may be assigned additional duties in the area of facility and game management and teaching. These responsibilities are determined annually by the Director of Athletics.
- Serves as an active member of the athletic department’s team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation to our nearly 2,000 undergraduate students.
- Develops and maintains mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.
- Leads and assists with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives, and processes.
- Develops meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.

- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
- At least five years of related experience and/or training preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a strong understanding of the sport.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire)
- The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively and professionally with students, faculty and staff, and the public are required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Proficiency in writing reports and correspondence.
- Capability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork abilities.
- Expertise in teaching technical skills specific to football.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Basic Word/Excel and ability to learn and operate recruiting software.
