The Point is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic long-term substitute High School English Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in English Language Arts to students, following the established curriculum while maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned English courses
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the state standards and curriculum guidelines.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with varying academic levels, learning styles, and needs.
- Assign and grade student work, including essays, projects, quizzes, and exams, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Foster an engaging, inclusive, and respectful classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and personal growth.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to motivate and challenge students.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including grades, attendance, and behavioral notes.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to keep them informed of student progress and any concerns.
- Attend departmental meetings and collaborate with other teachers to support student achievement and department initiatives.
- Uphold school policies and maintain professional standards of conduct at all times.
- Support students in developing essential skills such as critical thinking, writing proficiency, and literary analysis.
- Provide classroom supervision and manage student behavior in accordance with school policies.
- Prepare and facilitate lessons for any required standardized testing or assessments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
- Teaching certification in North Carolina, or the ability to obtain certification.
- Previous teaching experience at the high school level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of English literature, grammar, writing instruction, and pedagogy.
- Ability to create a dynamic and positive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and academic success.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and administrators.
- Flexibility and a proactive attitude to respond to the needs of the students and the school community.
