Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School & High School Guidance Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will support the academic, social, emotional, and career development of students in grades 6–12. This position plays a critical role in helping students achieve personal success and prepare for post-secondary opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, personal/social, and career development
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to develop and implement student support plans
- Facilitate academic planning, including course selection, graduation requirements, and college/career pathways
- Organize and deliver programs related to college and career readiness, including college fairs, application workshops, and financial aid presentations
- Support students in crisis and connect families with outside mental health and community resources
- Contribute to a positive school culture by promoting equity, inclusion, and student well-being
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with school policies and legal requirements
- Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide SEL (Social Emotional Learning) initiatives
- Participate in IEP/504 meetings and provide input on student supports and accommodations as needed
- Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning
the needs and abilities of students. - Ensure that all activities align to school guidelines.
- Lead the continued implementation of NC Peaceful Schools restorative practice
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school, district and community.
- Work effectively with success coaches and community organizations.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters in Counseling - required
- Experience with graduation pathways
- Willingness to build professional relationships and maintain boundaries
- Experience working with youth, preferably in a school setting
- Knowledge of high school and college advising
Must have:
Personal and reliable transportation
Ability to work in multiple campuses daily, including community college
