Job Summary:
The College Preparatory and Leadership Academy is seeking a dynamic and creative Middle and High School Theater Teacher. The ideal candidate will be passionate about theater education and have the ability to develop students’ skills in acting, production, and stagecraft while fostering a love for the performing arts. This role includes teaching theater courses, directing school productions, and collaborating with colleagues across the Fine Arts department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a standards-based theater curriculum for middle and high school students.
- Teach acting techniques, theater history, script analysis, stagecraft, and production skills.
- Direct school plays, musicals, and performances throughout the academic year.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages artistic expression, collaboration, and respect.
- Differentiate instruction to support a wide range of student abilities and experiences.
- Manage all aspects of theater productions including auditions, rehearsals, set design, costuming, and technical support.
- Work closely with faculty, staff, and parents to support students’ academic and artistic success.
- Participate in school-wide events, meetings, and ongoing professional development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (required).
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (required for licensure eligibility).
- Eligible for a teaching license or currently licensed in Theater Arts or related field by the state of North Carolina.
Additional Requirements:
- Experience directing middle and/or high school theatrical productions.
- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire students in the performing arts.
- Technical theater knowledge (lighting, sound, set design) is a plus.
