DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in managing department inventory, in-stock position, pricing integrity, merchandising, labor, and other operational processes to company standards.
- Assist in the development of SOP’s, Merchandising Plans, Training and Staff development.
- Assists with planning, ordering and processing meat & seafood according to Common Markets standards to maximize sales and gross profit.
- Assists with correct ordering, receiving, unloading, storage, and rotation of merchandise and displays.
- Plans promotions in coordination with M&S Manager and Category team and ensure promotional signage is accurate, up to date, and follows the coop’s established format.
- Ensures the meat cases are well-stocked with fresh, high-quality meat & seafood products for our customers.
- Ensures inventory and supplies are adequate for daily demand, projected high sales days, and special events.
- Assist with ensuring displays and coolers are regularly monitored for temperatures and items are replenished and rotated according to quality standards (i.e. dates) set in the department.
- Assists with the protection of store assets by participating in periodic inventory, following established security practices/policies, and handling injuries/incidents to minimize store liability.
- Ensures accurate up-to-date records of cost of preparing all items, as well as, accurate and up-to-date labeling.
- Consistently reviews goals for sales, margin, and labor and makes suggestions for improvements to Manager.
- Assist with scheduling of Meat & Seafood Department staff, filling gaps in coverage caused by unscheduled absences or tardiness, and communicating changes.
- Facilitate staff break schedule during shift.
- Provide frequent feedback to the Manager regarding scheduling and conduct and performance issues.
- Participates in and contributes to monthly department meetings.
- Follows Health Department Regulations and department sanitation and safety procedures.
- Provides attentive, timely, and friendly service to all internal and external customers at all times.
- Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the co-op.
- Answers customer questions knowledgeably.
- Handles product conscientiously, cognizant of preventing shrink.
- Follows established procedures for product rotation, including recording shrink in the log.
- Replenishes product quickly, maintaining display shelves with product.
- Follows Health Department Regulations and department sanitation and safety procedures.
- Others duties as assigned.
Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in purchasing or merchandising.
- A minimum of one (1) year’s experience in a retail environment.
- A minimum of one (1) year’s experience and familiarity with natural foods strongly preferred.

- Adapts readily based on evolving co-op needs or in response to feedback.
- Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
- Computer proficiency and familiarity with food scales preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, weekends.
- Must wear closed-toe, skid-resistant shoes; a head covering (hat, bandanna, etc.); butcher’s jacket; and long pants.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, including a refrigerated room kept at 40°F.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods at a time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
- Reliable access to transportation.
Salary : $21 - $25
