Pleasant St. Box 2248 Amherst, MA 01002 Title: Summerfun Associate Teacher Employment Classification: Seasonal (Summer) Reports to: Director of Auxiliary Programming, Emma Simmons (emma@commonschool.org) Salary: $650/week JOB SUMMARY The Summerfun Associate Teacher will support the Summerfun Head Teacher by playing an active role in the exciting summer camps occurring at The Common School. Summer camps occur for six weeks from June 23rd – August 1st, with a two day staff training June 18th and 20th. Teachers are onsite 8:00am-4pm, allowing for 30 minutes of preparation in the morning and 30 minutes of clean-up in the afternoon. Responsibilities will include; ensuring student safety, assisting in the preparation of materials and lessons for camps, snack preparation, assisting in crafts, games, outdoor play, and other camp activities, supporting behavior management, assisting in the setup, clean up, and running of day camps. Students vary in age from 3 – 12 years old. DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Assist Head Teachers in routine duties of caring for and teaching children Assist in classroom management, implementation of curriculum, and playground activities. Supervise children in play and in lieu of Head Teacher absence, run daily program Participate in documentation of student work and communication with caregivers Clean and organize work and play areas. Help set up and clean up all spaces for each day Communicate with students and coworkers with clarity and sensitivity Perform other duties as assigned PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Experience with working with children ages 3 – 12 Passion for creating a nurturing, child-centered, play-based, socially-just classroom community Experience supporting the educational, social and emotional development of students Able to maintain open and positive communication with teaching partners If Interested: send your resume, cover letter, and three references to emma@commonschool.org
