The Transit Vehicle Technician at Pike CAC will work closely with the Transportation Operations Manager, Transit Operations Specialist, and Transit Operations Clerk to provide safe and reliable transportation to Pike County.
Essential Functions
Functional Area: Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

- Perform Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMI) on vehicles according to accepted standards for the type and mileage of the vehicles. Provide said PMI as scheduled and repair or replace any wear component of the vehicle’s system found to have failed or to be past its useful life during the PMI.
- Assist in completing necessary forms and schedules, ensuring all repairs and PMI/PM activities are well documented and can be tracked by recording service and repairs. Maintain accurate, on-site documentation of vehicle fleet maintenance, track vehicle mileage, and schedule agency vehicles for maintenance in accordance with the Preventative Maintenance Plan.
- Cycle vehicles in for preventative maintenance on schedule per manufacturer requirements.
- Facilitate the audit of vehicle record files for internal and funding source monitoring.
- Provide specialized repair and maintenance of wheelchair lifts.
- Contain costs by using warranty and costs; evaluating service and parts options.
- Provide pick up and return of vehicles to and from the vehicle maintenance facility. This includes going to a breakdown site to either provide repair service or to arrange for towing of disabled vehicles to maintenance facility.
- Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance, and scheduling repairs and annual inspections as needed.
- Keep accurate monthly inventory of supplies and send report to Fiscal monthly.
- Resolve all defective equipment reports submitted by the Transit Vehicle Operators.
- Responsible for ordering of all garage supplies, parts, and tools.
- Provide coverage in the CATS office as needed answering phones, scheduling, and dispatching.
- Complete purchase orders for vehicle supplies and parts for supervisor and director’s approval and signature.
- Manage repair invoices in ALLDATA.
- Complete vehicle technician courses, meetings or conferences through the Ohio Department of Transportation or its affiliate related to the job duties of the CATS position.

- Maintain Passenger Assistance Trainer credentials to lead trainings bi-annually for staff.
- Conduct ride-a-longs with new drivers and current drivers on new routes as assigned.
- Shadow drivers to monitor driving habits as assigned.
- Train and prepare Transit Vehicle Operators preparing for CDL with Passenger Endorsement certification.

- Drive safely in various settings including, but not limited to large cities, interstate, highways, and rural areas.
- Complete bus driver training courses, meetings or conferences through the Ohio Department of Transportation or its affiliate related to the job duties of the CATS position.
- Maintain required records and handle confidential information in a professional manner.
- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with customers and promote a positive reflection of CAC and CATS.
- Attend mandatory meetings and trainings as assigned by the Transportation Operations Manager or the Director of Senior and Transportation Programs.
- Report hazardous road conditions to dispatcher.
- Proficiency with use of tablet, iPad, and commercial 2-way radio.
