Job Title: School Nurse - Part Time

The School Nurse - Part Time ensures our health records are up to date to provide the best health and safety to the students of our school. He/she identifies and treats health disorders among students and provides instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention. The employee must evaluate the physical conditions of students and refer students to appropriate resources as needed. Decisions made by this employee require discretionary judgment and analysis.
This position reports directly to the School Nurse - Full Time.
Key Responsibilities:
Professional Growth and Learning:
- Attend orientation and all faculty meetings.
- Set and meet yearly goals demonstrating personal and professional growth; achieving the required total of yearly continuing education credits.
- Undergo yearly professional evaluations, setting goals, and receiving feedback/correction as needed.
- Seek out and take advantage of opportunities for continued skills development and professional growth.
- Maintain and update licensure.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Monitor compliance of school health programs with federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies to include student medical files.
- Know and uphold all policies and procedures - employee, parent/student, crisis management, etc.
- Provide accurate reporting of all clinic visits and incidents.
- Maintain security and stock of school health supplies.
- Develop, manage, and communicate student health/allergy plans.
- Prepare health reports for administration and county health department.
- Ensure first aid supplies and CPR/AED kits and epi-pens are fully stock and ready for use.
- Work with administration to ensure identified school staff have the appropriate CPR / First Aid certifications and refresher training as required.
- Receive and relay all tardy and absent correspondence to the Office Admin Asst.
- Collaborate with other child-support agencies in designing and providing a school health program.
- Help develop policies, procedures and work standards for school health programs.
- Submit purchase requests for needed supplies.
- Submit reimbursement requests for approved purchases as needed
- Assist students and others with routine health problems.
Planning and Progress:
- Meet with the operations director, as needed, to receive and give feedback, problem solve, and strategize to further advance the school's mission.
- Initiates program changes as needed.

- Set an example for the staff professionally and spiritually.
Professional Qualities and Leadership:
- Provide a neat, welcoming well-managed clinic for receiving students on a daily basis. Provide proactive care/supervision of students while in the clinic.
- Implement the medication policy and provide first aid care and medically prescribed services. Screen and conduct health appraisals for students.
- Serve as a resource person on health issues.
- Provide staff development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers. Provide follow-up evaluations on students as required.
- Recommend corrective action where problems are identified.
- Correspond with parents on the health needs of children.
- Consistently exhibits high standards of professional conduct, diplomacy and collaboration.
- Arrive punctually and be prepared for each school day.
Stakeholder Support and Engagement
- Welcome all incoming students, families, and guests respectfully and professionally.
- Provide excellent customer service by promptly responding to emails and phone calls within 48 hours.
- Answer incoming emails and phone calls with a professional response.
- Maintains positive and professional interactions with staff, students, and parents.
- Maintain a positive and professional atmosphere in the Nurse’s office.

Education, Certificates, Licensing & Special Requirements:
Required
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse or LPN in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- First Aid, CPR and AED certified (ability to train, a plus)
- Ability to pass a criminal background investigations and Child Protective Services screening.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight as required for the position.
- Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Required
- Minimum of 3 years recent nursing experience with a strong pediatric nursing background or previous school nursing experience preferred.
- People person
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight as required for the position.
- Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies.
Desired - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Minimum of one-year experience maintaining student/patient records in accordance with HIPPA and other federal/state/county guidelines.
- Basic office database and systems knowledge is required.
