APPLY FOR THIS ADULT MINISTRIES ROLE Leadership Profile The Compass Church in Wheaton, Illinois is seeking a Pastor/Director of Adult Ministries to provide leadership and oversight for adult discipleship and small groups ministries. As a key leader at the Wheaton Campus, this individual will play a vital role in mobilizing and equipping volunteer ministry leaders and fostering a culture of discipleship. This position also uniquely offers candidates the opportunity to specialize in either Congregational Care or Guest Services, aligning the role with their passions and skill sets. The next Pastor/Director of Adult Ministries at Wheaton will be a relational and shepherding leader with strong organizational and leadership skills. This individual will cultivate a culture of connection, care, and spiritual growth, ensuring that small groups, men’s and women’s ministries, young adults, and adult Bible fellowships flourish. The ideal candidate will be a servant-hearted leader who is passionate about discipleship and equipping others for ministry. The Wheaton Campus of The Compass Church will be undergoing a $10MM renovation next year to provide state of the art facilities including ministry spaces and classrooms. This exciting expansion project is expected to double the size of the Wheaton congregation. This role is crucial in cultivating a vibrant discipleship culture, providing effective pathways for spiritual growth, and creating meaningful connections within a growing church community. Who is The Compass Church? Since its founding in 1952, The Compass Church has been dedicated to biblical teaching, discipleship, and outreach. A member of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), The Compass Church is a multi-campus church serving Chicagoland with six locations: Naperville, Wheaton, Bolingbrook, South Naperville, Three Rivers, and Hinsdale. Additionally, CompassOnline and Compass Español provide digital and Spanish-language ministry options. The church’s story is one of growth, faith, and responsiveness to God’s calling. It began as Wheaton Evangelical Free Church in 1952 and soon planted a congregation in Naperville in 1957. Over the decades, the church experienced significant expansion, moving locations multiple times to accommodate growth. Snapshot Total Wheaton Total Avg: 4,321 672 Kids: 619 73 Students: 245 55 Staff: 143 9 (4 FT, 5 PT) Budget: $12.4M Position Summary The Pastor/Director of Adult Ministries for the Wheaton Campus is a spiritually mature and relational leader who champions adult discipleship through small groups, adult Bible fellowships, and specialized adult ministries. Depending on personal passion and expertise, candidates will have the option to specialize in either Congregational Care or Guest Services. This position reports to the Wheaton Campus Pastor. RESPONSIBILITIES: Adult Ministries Leadership Mobilize, lead, recruit, and equip volunteer ministry leaders, small group leaders, and facilitators. Develop and implement small group growth strategies to deepen discipleship. Oversee men's, women's, young adult, and adult Bible fellowship ministries. Create clear and accessible onramps to explore serving teams. Plan and implement campus-wide adult ministry events. Team Development & Collaboration Partner with other Pastors/Directors leaders across Compass campuses. Ensure strong communication and collaboration with Wheaton Campus Pastor and staff. Steward and oversee budgets for all areas you are responsible for. Option 1: Pastor/Director of Adult Ministries and Congregational Care Provide pastoral care and support for a diversity of ages through prayer teams, support groups, and visitation ministries. Oversee care needs, including hospital visits, counseling referrals, and crisis response. Lead campus-wide prayer efforts, including prayer groups and intercessory teams. Coordinate funeral arrangements and support grieving families. APPLY FOR THIS ADULT MINISTRIES ROLE Option 2: Pastor/Director of Adult Ministries and Guest Services Oversee all first-impression ministries, ensuring welcoming and engaging guest experiences. Direct volunteer teams including Parking, Greeters, Ushers, Communion Prep & Serving, CompassCentral, Café, Discover the Compass and Guest Follow Up and special events. Develop effective guest assimilation processes, helping newcomers meaningfully connect with the church. Champion a culture of hospitality, warmth, and belonging throughout the campus. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in a related field or five years of ministry experience. 3-5 years of leadership experience in a church of 300 with similar responsibilities. Strong ability to recruit, train, and empower volunteers. A team player who builds relationships across diverse church demographics. Excellent public speaking, teaching, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively. A self-starter with initiative and creative problem solving skills. Affirms The Compass Church's Statement of Faith and theological alignment with the EFCA. Must be (or become) a member of The Compass Church within 12 months of employment.
