About the positions and how to apply…

We are seeking to fill the High School Assistant Principal position for the next academic school year with a start date of July 21st.

This role will Assist the High School Principal in the overall management of the High School program, with administrative and instructional functions; management, programming, and implementation of The Cottage School policies and procedures to meet the educational needs of students and carry out the mission and goals of The Cottage School.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and training responsibilities for instructional support, student interns and service personnel as assigned by the High School Principal or Executive Director, Head of School
  • Works collaboratively to lead and nurture members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents and members of the community
  • Supervision of staff, curriculum development, discipline and expectation guidelines, etc. inherent to this position
  • Establishes and ensures a positive, safe work environment for students and staff
  • Provides and implements efficient plans for emergency sub rotation when internal substitute coverage is required to ensure adequate and appropriate coverage
  • Assists in providing supervision and oversight for substitute teachers; greet substitute teachers and ensure they have the materials they need
  • Communicates with all personnel involved with students to ensure consistent, successful support and reinforcement to include Ancillary staff
  • Works with Registrar and Counselor to facilitate appropriate procedures for transferring information, monitoring maintenance of High School records and documents, and ensuring confidentiality and ethical, professional protocols as established by the school
  • Assists the Principal in maintaining appropriate inventory records for equipment, textbooks and materials
  • Coordinates an assessment of facility maintenance needs to report to designated personnel
  • Assist Principal in monitoring school budget
  • Assists the Principal in supervising and monitoring the accurate and timely completion of data collection and reporting requirements
  • Assists in the development of the master schedule for student/teacher assignment
  • Assist in the assessment of student placement and needs
  • Reviews student records and student history to enable appropriate support
  • Provides master plan for room assignments and space use
  • Coordinates calendar and events planning with the Principal and Administrative Team
  • Reviews teacher phone logs consistently and in a timely manner; provide follow up plan when needed
  • Supervises attendance reports and assess issues as needed
  • Monitors discipline issues of students; provide documentation as required
  • Maintains discipline files and master file in school records
  • Provides in-house suspension supervision
  • Monitors medication support of students ensuring safe and responsible dispensing procedures
  • Supports and communicates relevant information to promote and ensure accurate decision making by administrative team members
  • Supports Principal with implementing and monitoring pay levels chart
  • Confers with students, parents, and teachers to resolve problems
  • Supports consistent compliance with school dress code, students and staff
  • Supports training and scheduling of Student Ambassadors as events warrant
  • Attends student IEP conferences as requested
  • Delegate responsibilities to appropriate staff members, as needed
  • Attends and supports facilitation of all staff meetings and after school meetings
  • Serves as a member of the Administrative Team and facilitates meetings when required
  • Attends parent meetings representing High School leadership and provides parent support
  • Supports and attends school and community functions
  • Assesses and monitors instructional support, program implementation and progress
  • Provides input and assistance to new teacher training, pre-planning orientation, mid-year school requirements, and post planning activities
  • Organizes staff evaluation procedure at the High School, protocol training and education, review with Principal, and maintenance of the documents
  • Provides training opportunities and feedback to school personnel as assigned by the Principal
  • Facilitates/organizes paperwork for staff development opportunities such as GISA, IDA, etc., in conjunction with high school procedures and needs
  • Promotes staff development activities and provides requests for professional development training when indicated
  • Is actively involved in professional growth and development
  • Participates as a representative of the school by participating in various professional, civic, service, and community functions to help promote the mission and understanding of the school
  • Communicates with parents via phone calls, summarizes the uses and resolutions, and provides written communication as indicated to ensure consistency and to promote the success of the student
  • Performs other duties as requested by the High School Principal, Executive Director
  • Plan and implement High School graduation with Administrative Team
  • Oversees student parking system including assignment of spaces, collection of forms and distribution of stickers, maintain attendance standards and issue violation notices
  • Maintains consistency in implementation of protocols and policies of The Cottage School
  • Maintains a high professional and ethical standard in maintaining the goals and mission of the school
  • Provides supervision of students and staff
  • Assists in the supervision of student activities both on and off campus such as lunch, transition periods, level meetings, social and athletic events; assign and supervise faculty for all student activities
  • Plans for school events and student activities to assist in providing for effective supervision and safety of students
  • Provides morning and afternoon carpool support and establishes/maintains safe procedures for supervision for students on campus

Essential Requirements:

  • Must have a Master’s degree in from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have demonstrated a minimum of 3 years' classroom or instructional experience with students.
  • Must have demonstrated successful experience in a supervisory or administrative role for a minimum of 3 years.
  • A positive attitude and clear enthusiasm for working with children and families, while modeling ethical and professional behavior.
  • Strong written and verbal skills, with attention to documenting important decisions/interactions.
  • Be punctual, dependable and reliable.
  • Proven communication skills, both orally and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
  • Must be able to pass and maintain a clean background check
  • Hold a valid GA Driver's License and have a clean driving record
