What are the responsibilities and job description for the CPST Provider position at The Counseling Center?
JOB SUMMARY
The CPST Provider provides frontline support toward the mental health related goals and objectives to
clients, performs duties relating to mental health care management including ensuring understanding and
compliance with clinical recommendations, assisting clients in obtaining supportive services, making
necessary referrals and providing training regarding independent living skills. The CPST Provider
facilitates services within the group and individual setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are duties which are essential or primary to the position or the reason the position
exists. An individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without
reasonable accommodation.
The CPST Provider performs an integral role in carrying out the mission of The Counseling Center, Inc.,
by performing the following duties:
1. Identifying needs of client, assists in development of treatment plan, and gathers information
relevant to service needs.
2. Provides group and individual services to improve coping and daily living skills in an environment
that is conducive to recovery efforts.
3. Provides written documentation of client activity/treatment plans and periodic written updates
when needed, in order to maintain compliance with requirement/standards and provide
documentation for billing of services.
4. Collaborates with the mental health services team to ensure continuity of care for clients served.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Secondary functions are duties, which are not exclusive of the position, can be performed by other
positions; however, secondary duties are to be performed for the efficiency of The Counseling Center,
Inc.
1. Assists in office tasks when needed.
2. Attends weekly staff and clinical meetings to share in problem solving and addressing specific
client issues.
3. Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator/Director.
COMPETENCIES
1. Demonstrated knowledge of alcoholism and chemical dependency.
2. Demonstrates understanding of clinical practice and performance including understanding of the
process of assessment, treatment, and confidentiality.
3. Ability in the area of effective communication, interpersonal skills.
4. Ability to complete all documentation in accordance with agency policy.
5. Effective time management/organizational skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, INCLUDING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
1. High School Diploma or equivalent, Behavioral Science Degree preferred.
2. Certification as, or ability to become certified as a Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS).
3. Knowledge of alcoholism and other addictions, experience with 12-Step Recovery Program
preferred.
4. Valid Ohio Drivers License and ability to maintain insurability preferred.
5. Maintain CPR/First Aid treatment preferred.
6. Maintains applicable agency trainings.
