OBJECTIVE: This position will report to the President The candidate is responsible for the implementation and integrity of programs related to ensuring the safety and the quality of products at the Country Butcher beef processing plant.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Must facilitate all food safety/quality training programs throughout the Country Butcher processing plant.
- Abide by and enforce all safety policies.
- Provide a positive work-place environment for all employees.
- Be the liaison between the Country Butcher and the USDA.
- Maintain procedures and documentation for duties associated with the quality department and all other departments regarding food safety and quality.
- Coordinate all customer and vendor audits.
- Must cooperate, assist, and communicate with other workers and departments.
- Ensure that food safety policies (GMP, HACCP, QUALITY, SSOP and SQF), procedures and regulations are trained, implemented, and adhered to by all employees.
- Oversee the implementation and improvement, verification and validation of the SQF program, and maintain the integrity of the system.
- Creating SSOPs and SOPs to ensure effective processes are in place
- Responsible for monitoring and enforcing a controlled process regarding food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Play an instrumental role in root cause analysis, problem solving, corrective actions, and follow through with resolution to food safety or quality issues.
- Resolve and document customer complaints and utilize for trending and improved practices.
- Manager all pathogen testing and procedures.
- Schedule and oversee all SQF and third-party audits and the internal audit programs.
- Work with the USDA staff and ensure regulatory requirements are met or exceeded and trend for process improvements.
- Verify that all HACCP, QA records, and quality checks are completed as required, and evaluate the performance of Quality team positions.
- Implement and oversee the Supplier Approval Process, review and update annual approval documents to ensure suppliers are adhering to required criteria.
- Work with suppliers to develop a program to enhance and standardize the quality of incoming products.
- Monitor and review the product sampling program.
- Oversee the company's Pest Control Program and the Food Defense Program.
- Must understand, explain and demonstrate how to operate all equipment and instrumentation utilized by the quality assurance department, and review and trend the calibration of the equipment.
- Must be able to train and evaluate employees in quality assurance duties and SQF procedures.
- All other duties as required by upper Management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 3 years’ experience in a Quality Management role.
- Must have previous experience with Food Safety Management within an SQF certified food manufacturing facility.
- Must have experience working with the USDA in a food processing facility
- Must be HACCP certified.
Communication Skills
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence as well as present to large groups
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, business partners, U.S.D.A., supervisors, and employees.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required
Work Environment
- The work environment is a combination of corporate and manufacturing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to cold, hot, and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
