The Vector Control Program role is crucial for overseeing and executing strategies aimed at controlling and diminishing vector-borne diseases in the community. This position involves monitoring mosquito and tick populations in Adams County while collaborating closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The ideal candidate will be tasked with monitoring vector populations, applying pesticides when needed, and evaluating the effectiveness of control efforts. Additionally, this role involves creating outreach programs to educate the public about diseases spread by mosquitoes and ticks.
THIS IS A SEASONAL POSITION, UP TO 6 MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT AND NOT BENEFIT ELGIBLE, UP TO 37.5 HORUS PER WEEK, BUT MAY VARY.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in and/or knowledge or interest in Entomology, Biology, Environmental Studies, or related field.
- An Associates degree in Biology, Environmental Resource Management, or a closely related field in agriculture or natural resources is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Investigating mosquito and dead bird complaints.
- Collect sample ticks and adult and larval mosquitoes using light, gravid, larval traps. Submit samples to DEP for virus testing and species identification.
- Safely apply pesticides when deemed necessary to catch basins, tire piles, drainage ditches.
- Develop and disseminate press releases indicating when and where pesticides will be applied.
Compensation: $15.25
