About The Croft School

The Croft School is a young independent school in the South End neighborhood of Boston. Having opened in September 2022, our school currently enrolls students in Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade. During the 2025-26 school year, we will expand to include Second Grade. Over time, we will grow into a 300-student Preschool - Sixth Grade school.

Our program includes high-quality literacy and math instruction embedded in a play-based, emergent curriculum responsive to our student's development and interests. Our program is complemented by frequent enrichment, Spanish courses, and weekly community adventures that extend learning beyond the classroom.

About The Role

The Croft School is seeking an exceptional candidate to be our founding Learning Specialist. The Learning Specialist’s role is to ensure that our diverse population of students are meeting their full potential through a personalized approach to teaching and learning. Learning Specialists will work alongside our lead teachers and administration to create a personalized and differentiated experience for individual and/or small groups of students who need additional scaffolding and support. The Learning Specialist will also work alongside lead teachers to ensure the implementation of documented accommodations for students with IEPs. The Learning Specialist will make regular assessments of student progress and use that data to inform appropriate supports and approaches. Additionally, all Croft team members dedicate ample time and thoughtfulness to close communication and partnership with students’ families.

The individual filling this role will be responsible for working approximately 10-15 hours per week (likely Monday through Thursday), on site, during the 2024-25 school year. Exact hours will be determined based on the finalized academic schedule.

Qualifications And Qualities

  • 3 years of elementary teaching experience
  • Experience working with students who bring a range of learning strengths and needs, including neurodivergent students
  • Special Education coursework/degree strongly preferred
  • Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson Reading System certification strongly preferred, yet not required
  • An exceptional ability to design and lead targeted, individualized and small-group instruction
  • A contagious love for teaching, children, and nurturing students’ natural curiosity, instilling in them a lifelong passion for learning
  • An entrepreneurial spirit coupled with an ambitious work ethic
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, inclusive of empathy for others, thoughtful listening, team-orientation, and enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues and families
  • Ability to create a safe, joyous learning environment, inclusive of excellent classroom management strategies and skills
  • Self-reflectiveness, humility, and an eagerness to continually improve one’s practice
  • A strong desire to remain in this role for 5 years
  • A Bachelor’s Degree and current authorization to work in the United States is required
