About The Role
The Secondary School Pathways Advisor will support students and families as they navigate the unique secondary school matriculation process in and around Boston. This role involves working closely with 5th and 6th grade students and their families to help them understand, prepare for, and find success in entering their preferred secondary schools, whether private, traditional public, public exam, or charter. The Pathways Advisor will guide students and families through the process of learning about options and selecting preferred schools as well as exam preparation and application submission, where applicable, ensuring students are well-positioned to gain admission or otherwise enter high-quality secondary schools. Further, the Pathways Advisor will strengthen relationships with local independent secondary schools, generating enthusiasm for accepting our well-prepared Croft students. Finally, this person will play a pivotal role - alongside our teachers - in preparing our students for secondary school success.
The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of Boston’s secondary school admission processes, including both public and independent schools, and will be skilled in relationship-building to advocate for Croft students.
Key Responsibilities
- Family and Student Guidance :
Meet with 5th and 6th graders and their families to explore high school options and establish a personalized pathway for each student’s secondary education.
Provide support for entrance exam preparation, including familiarization with commonly required tests for both public and independent schools.
Build and maintain strong relationships with local secondary institutions, advocating for Croft students as competitive and prepared applicants.
Work with students and families to prepare for secondary school acceptance, including matriculation planning and understanding secondary school expectations.
