Director of Studio Operations

and Facilities

oversees the department and directly manages a team of 8-10 staff members including Studio Operations Technicians and a part-time Facilities Coordinator. In addition to oversight of the studio and facilities, the role leads three key functions including employee & visitor safety, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation and management. They are responsible for helping to supervise interns, seasonal apprentices, contractors, and volunteers for site-related projects. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Studio Operations and Facilities is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of staff, faculty, students, and community when in and around the facility.

Requirements

At least four (4) years of relevant work experience with managing an industrial facility or department, an active art school department or departments, studio or labs.At least three (3) years of experience managing at least three (3) entry and mid-level direct reportsStrong knowledge of Cal / OSHA regulations including Cal / OSHA 30-Hour Training for General Industry and Forklift Certification or willingness to acquire within thirty (30) days.Experience working with federal, state and local regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and obtain required permits for operation.Experience with industrial arts fabrication equipment and studio and safety requirements.Strong organizational skills; comfort with digital tools and research.Self-motivation and adaptability.Ability to prioritize workload efficiently and manage multiple projects.Can work effectively under pressure, react quickly, and meet tight deadlines.Strong personal integrity, maturity, and credibility.Experience with Google Drive tools, spreadsheets, and presentations.Proficient with MS-Office (e.g., Word, PPT), Google Workspace tools (e.g., Doc, Sheets, Slides), and Zoom. Willing and able to learn new software.Valid California Driver's License with an insurable driving recordAbility to complete California DOJ LiveScan for youth-serving organizations.People-orientation- able to interact effectively, politely, and productively with all types of people from all types of backgrounds and experience and in all types of situations.Deeply committed to social justice and educationProfessional maturity to manage composure during stressful interactionsEnergetic, diplomatic, adaptable and with a good sense of humorPassionate about The Crucible's mission, vision, and goals and possess an understanding of how this position contributes to the organization's success.Preferred Qualifications

Possesses one or more of the following certifications : HAZWOPER 40, CPR / First Aid, Aerial Lift, Fire Safety, Rigging, Crane, Certified CPR Trainer, Certified Forklift Trainer.An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university or other relevant training or applicable experiences.BS in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health and Safety and 5-7 years in a management role leading health and safety functionsPrevious leadership experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in education, arts or social service organization.Physical Requirements

This position is primarily located in an office and warehouse environment. Able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation :

Stand, sit, kneel, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for the duration of an eight (8) hour shift.Able to operate standard office equipment including computers, keyboard, phones, POS machines, and printers.Traverse safely throughout the entirety of the facility including climbing stairs.Safely lift, move, and transport items weighing up to 50 lbs.Communicate in a clear speaking voice in person, over the phone and during video conferences.Complete COVID-19 primary vaccination series and most recent vaccination booster available.
