CSI Companies is hiring a Remote Profee Outpatient Coder (Ortho) for one of our top healthcare revenue cycle management clients.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week, standard business hours
Location: Remote
Pay: $24-40/hour based on experience, education, and credentials
Position Type: Contract to Hire
Job Summary:
The Remote Profee Outpatient Coder (Ortho) plays a vital role on a collaborative team responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of professional and technical charges. This position involves applying appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes, along with applicable modifiers, to individual patient records for accurate data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing.
The coder works closely with clients to optimize reimbursement, ensure complete charge capture, reduce late charges, and offer constructive feedback to providers. They routinely provide physicians with documentation and compliance guidance, conduct training sessions for coding staff and providers, and resolve pre-bill edits through appropriate follow-up actions.
Additionally, the role includes compiling statistical data and identifying trends for management reporting. This position requires sound judgment within established guidelines and procedures, with general oversight for routine tasks and more detailed instruction for new or complex assignments.

Job Responsibilities:
- Adheres to official coding guidelines.
- Applies CPT-4, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS and modifiers following coding guidelines.
- Code all documented professional services and submit for billing.
- Perform compliance audits on coders and providers
- Ensure coded services, provider charges and medical record documentation meet appropriate guidelines or standards.
- Ensures all services are accounted for and billed.
- Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
- Provides feedback to physicians related to revenue opportunities.
- Queries physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record in inadequate, ambiguous, or?unclear for coding purposes.
- Utilize appropriate methods to ensure all documented professional services are submitted in a timely manner.
- Utilizes correct coding practices to file clean claims aiding in improved cash flow.
- Ensures all error work queues are addressed timely
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active and verifiable CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P is required
- Certified Orthopedic Surgery Coder (COSC) certification is highly preferred
- 2 years’ experience as an outpatient medical coder in orthopedics
- Technically savvy, experience with Epic is highly preferred
- Willingness to pass a pre-hire coding assessment
- Ability to utilize the ICD-10-CM & CPT-4 coding conventions to code medical record entries.
- Ability to abstract information from medical records; read medical record notes and reports; set accurate Diagnostic Related Groups
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, disease processes and operative procedures; demonstrated ability to incorporate these in making sounding coding
- Knowledge of standards and regulations pertaining to the maintenance of patient medical records; medical records coding systems; medical terminology; anatomy and physiology and study of diseases
- Proven record of accuracy, productivity, dependability, and problem-solving skills
- Resourceful, tactful, firm, cooperative in team setting
- Excellent communications skills verbal and written, with strong phone etiquette
- Set priorities effectively in an environment of multiple demands
- Communicate with insurance companies about coding errors and disputes
- Submit statistical data for analysis and research by other departments
- Ability to prepare training materials and deliver contents to selected audience
- Ability to fill in for coding management, allocating work to coders and communicating with administrators and providers
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree or higher is preferred.
- High speed internet on your own private home network; ability to work in a remote, distraction-free environment
