**Position Summary:**
This externship provides an opportunity for CIA students to work within the Marketing team at the CIA's New York campus, focusing on industry-focused communications and public relations efforts supporting the college. Students will gain exposure to all facets of marketing the college's industry businesses and serve as ambassador to the student community, helping build awareness and engagement with the college's industry programs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Gain an understanding of our industry leadership business units and how they connect back to the college.
- Develop proficiency in creating and executing marketing and PR plans.
- Acquire basic public relations skills that can translate to all areas of your future career, from presentation to writing feature copy to working with journalists.
- Broaden industry knowledge and learn how to merchandise public relations results.
- Draft compelling emails to drive conference attendance.
- Assist in developing conference marketing plans.
- Create blog posts and content to drive engagement on LinkedIn, our industry-facing social media channel.
- Collaborate with team members in brainstorming news story angles and drafting pitches.
- Gain familiarity with various industry publications and journalists and what they cover.
- Learn how to develop key messages and talking points for interviews and participate in media training.
- Compile weekly media highlights reports.
- Assist in publicizing various industry conferences and events.
- Recommend ways to drive greater student engagement and participation in the college's industry leadership programs.
**Required Qualifications:**
- Current CIA student, pre-Extern.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Copywriting (school newspaper, blog, or other marketing-oriented copy).
- Strong writing skills.
**Required Skills:**
- Excellent written, verbal communication and strong presentation skills required.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong administrative abilities.
- Strong computer experience in MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
**Working Conditions:**
- Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business need.
- Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods.
- Regular work requires the use of a computer, sometimes in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
