Senior Accountant
Location: Southwest Nassau, NY
Company Overview: Our client is a private middle market company located on the South shore of Long Island.
Position Overview: They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance and Operations team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting within the transportation or logistics industry and will be instrumental in managing and overseeing their financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Collaborate with department heads to ensure the accuracy of all financial reporting activities.
- Statement Preparation: Assist in the preparation and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Month-End Close: Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with the monthly close schedule.
- Audit Support: Play a pivotal role in audit preparations, building out processes, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with statutory accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
- Transaction Analysis: Analyze and review transactions for discrepancies, coding errors, and other issues, including preparation, review, upload, and posting of journal entries.
- Accounts Oversight: Closely monitor accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of budgets and financial forecasts, providing variance analyses and recommendations.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards pertinent to the aviation maintenance industry.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably within the transportation, logistics or related industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access. Experience with Microsoft Great Plains or similar accounting software is highly desirable.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements specific to New York State, Florida and Washington DC.
- Leadership: Experience in leading or mentoring junior accounting staff.
Compensation: The salary range is up to $90K and will commensurate with experience. Additional benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
