The Cypress of Hilton Head’s Plant Department is recruiting for a hospitality focused Director of Plant Operations to join our team!

Position Summary: Works in accordance with established policies and procedures and/or specific instructions from the Executive Director to plan, coordinate, and direct the operations of the Plant Operations Department and the functions of transportation and security.

  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the operations of the Plant Operations Department, Transportation and night maintenance.
  • Oversee the hiring, disciplining, and terminating of employees in the Plant Operations Department, and Transportation, ensuring adherence to facility policies and procedures.
  • Prepare the yearly budget for the Plant Operations Department, Transportation and maintain it within acceptable limits.
  • Prepare and respond to the budget variance reports for the Plant Operations Department, and Transportation.
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations for the staff of the Plant Operations Department, and Transportation.
  • Develop policies and procedures as needed.
  • Oversee the Assistant Plant Director within their role including renovation and refurbishment programs through the facility as needed.
  • Purchase capital budget items as needed within budgetary guidelines.
  • Comply with The Cypress’ Code of Conduct in all aspects of job including participation in training.
  • Instruct and document training of staff in policy and procedures pertinent to their individual department projects.
  • Review departmental work schedules to ensure appropriate utilization of labor hours.
  • Review completed departmental work assignments, tasks to determine proper staffing levels.
  • Attend various Resident committee meetings as required, including the Building and Grounds Committee and Health and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Participate on employee committees as required including leading employee Safety Committee with HR Director.
  • Assist in developing the asset replacement plan for the Facility.
  • Understand the requirements of State Health and Life Safety Codes.
  • Ensure compliance with Life Safety requirements and guide surveys and evaluations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and local codes, laws, and regulations governing the facility.
  • Understand the responsibility to report suspected violations of The Cypress Code of Conduct to appropriate persons, or to The Cypress Compliance Hotline, or by completing a Written Report of Suspected Compliance Violation, or by contacting the Corporate Compliance Officer directly.
  • Take appropriate precautions to avoid job related injuries and comply with injury reporting guidelines.
  • Look for ways to continuously improve safety for members, staff and visitors.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain attendance calendars for Staff of the Plant Operations Department, and Transportation and ensure compliance with attendance policy.
  • Attend all meetings/seminars as designated by the Executive Director.
  • Provide oral and written reports to the Executive Director or Administrator as required.
  • Meet with members regarding various issues as needed.
  • Maintain written records of department expenditures and assure that financial variance and other reports are submitted accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Approve the payroll processing of the Plant Operation Department, and Transportation.
  • Assist in prioritizing Maintenance Department projects as needed.
Additional duties as require

Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in related field, or experience in lieu of degree required. A minimum of 4 years experience supervising in building and/or grounds maintenance, transportation or security required. Demonstrated supervisory skills required.

Licensure/Certification: SC Driver's License required; CPR certification preferred.

Additional Qualifications: Must demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to relate well to people, particularly the elderly population. Good listening skills required. Must have the ability to interact with contractors, subcontractors, architects, county administrative personnel, members, and staff. Must be able to coordinate projects appropriately to ensure timely and accurate completion.

Security Requirements: The Director or Plant Operations is not required or allowed to electronically view or access confidential patient information. The Director of Plant Operations will be allowed to view and share patient information accessible otherwise in regard to patient care.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must be able to move throughout the building and grounds as needed throughout the day; must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. Good visual and hearing acuity required; good verbal communication skills required. Must be free of communicable disease; may be exposed to communicable diseases, and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.
