What are the responsibilities and job description for the D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments: Generalist Intern (New York) position at The D. E. Shaw Group?
OVERVIEW:
D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (“DESRI”) seeks talented, intellectually curious, and highly motivated individuals with a desire to learn and contribute, to join its summer internship program in the renewable energy space. DESRI is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 10 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 70 renewable energy projects in 24 states. The internship is an opportunity to participate in the development, acquisition, and management of renewable energy assets. Interns will become part of a small, highly skilled team responsible for supporting DESRI’s portfolio of wind and solar energy projects in an inclusive and engaging environment that values collaboration, thoughtful problem solving, and attention to detail. This DESRI internship will be in our New York office and is a ten-week program that is expected to run from June to August 2025.
WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
You’ll have the option to spend your summer with one of our teams, whether in asset management; project management; development; acquisitions & finance; engineering, procurement, construction (EPC); financial planning & analysis (FP&A); or corporate finance. There are many paths you can take as an intern—each involves collaborating with various colleagues across the firm on challenging, high-impact projects designed to help you learn, grow, and gain a deeper understanding of what it’s like to work with us. You’ll work closely with your manager, who will mentor you and support your professional development. You’ll be able to strengthen your skills—and develop new ones—via robust learning opportunities customized for interns. You’ll also make at least one site visit to an operating solar or wind asset, participate in New York-based intern events, and present to DESRI senior management at the end of the summer.
