The Daily is a cafe with the mission of serving delicious and nourishing food/beverages to our guests and connecting with the larger community. We are seasonally driven, healthfully influenced, and live our values. We make everything in-house and, as much as possible, utilize local ingredients. We take care of our team so they can take care of our guests. We are seeking a General Manager to oversee FOH operations of the cafe, as well as leading and training our barista and FOH team.

Our General Manager will be someone who knows how to lead by example. They can sense what guests need before they know it and can manage their time to complete admin work even when it's a busy day. This person will work directly with the FOH staff in support of seamless operations and presenting quality food and beverages to our guests. The GM will lead our FOH team, and will work closely with the Kitchen Manager to support the BOH team. Other duties include scheduling, ordering, hiring and training employees, and other tasks as needed.

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Previous barista experience of at least 2 years
  • Previous management/leadership experience
  • Open and flexible availability, including early mornings, afternoons, and weekends
  • Organized, quick thinking, adept at multitasking
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain focus and upbeat demeanor in fast-paced environment
  • Desire to work as a team to cultivate the best possible guest experience

What We'd Like Our GM to do:

 
  • Cultivate a healthy, positive, and engaged work culture, guided by company vision and values, helping each team member to succeed
  • Provide continuous direction and mentorship to all area staff; Analyze staff performance and deliver scheduled evaluations/reviews: providing thorough, accurate, and constructive feedback; Develop and maintain a thriving skill/leadership pipeline
  • Oversee hiring, training, disciplining, and terminations, ensuring that proper documentation is kept and shared with the Human Resources dept.
  • Work with PR/Marketing team to develop, lead and execute growth strategies and community relations initiatives
  • Possess a thorough understanding of all operations, including bakery, FOH & BOH operations, standards of service, preparation, and presentation standards
  • Coordinate facility and equipment maintenance; ensure that space is immaculate, properly merchandised, and appropriately stocked, signage is current and accurate, and that marketing materials are effectively displayed
  • Approve weekly schedule; ensure that schedules meet labor budget and operational effectiveness; providing opportunities for staff to explore and expand their capacities
  • Implement new projects accurately, on-schedule; train staff and follow through post-implementation to ensure success
  • Participate in formulating annual budgets and monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) meetings; Meet annual budget goals
  • Track and manage inventory Cost of Goods (COGS); analyze usage and correct instances of loss, managing inventory with R365 and ensuring timely input of schedules and invoices.
  • Oversee AP/AR, cash flow, and payroll with assistance from AGM and Management Company
  • Identify and pursue areas of possible growth; Seek out opportunities for meaningful engagement throughout area communities; Plan and host events in collaboration with leadership
  • Develop, strengthen and expand the company’s network within specialty coffee and food beverage industries
 Overall/Operations
  • Ensures promptness, freshness/quality and consistency of beverages produced 
  • Enforces hygiene and safety policies according to Dept of Health and company policies
  • Examines equipment for cleanliness and necessary maintenance regularly
  • Assists with new beverage recipes in conjunction with Beverage Director
  • Manages inventory and ordering of products needed for FOH use
  • Designated point person for managemen.. This includes managing breaks, labor hours, conflict resolution and disciplinary action as needed. 
  • Maintains positive relationships with purveyors and suppliers.
  • Trains and motivates team to meet and exceed established execution standards on a consistent basis
  • Assists leadership with training and development within the FOH team to ensure growth and excellence in areas such as proper technique, organization and cleanliness, teamwork, efficiency, creativity, etc. as delegated 
  • Displays exceptional leadership and immersion in company culture by providing a positive work environment and professional approach 
 
Administrative Tasks
  • Manages ordering/purchasing and receiving of goods
  • Upkeep and completion of detailed weekly and/or monthly inventory
  • Attends weekly manager meetings
  • Directs or ensures completion of checklists, prep lists, order guides, cleaning lists, and quality control checks
  • Troubleshoots issues regarding production
  • Manages Breadcrumb, Restaurant 365 and scheduling

Training & Guidance of Team
  • Delegates tasks and responsibilities according to each individual’s strengths and position
  • Communicates with management team on routine basis to assess and ensure the successful completion of responsibilities assigned to team members, including daily, weekly and long term needs for growth 
  • Encourages creative consensus among all team members; including feedback for improvement to procedures and protocols 
  • Provides positive feedback on performance on a regular basis
