What are the responsibilities and job description for the Election Researchers position at The Dallas Morning News?
The Dallas Morning News has openings for two part-time election researchers skilled at digging deep to track and uncover hard-to-find intelligence and information.The journalists will be charged with using open-source intelligence tools and public records to support coverage of local politics. We are looking for flexible, fast learners who are organized and can work independently.
Responsibilities and skills :
- The main priority is to assist with election coverage by researching and backgrounding candidates, political parties, and political groups
- Knowledge of Texas politics and Texas government
- Utilize public records, databases, and open-source intelligence tools
- Monitor sources and social media and identify information pertinent to the elections
- Complete public information requests
- Obtain data, create datasets, clean and verify information
- Work in a fast-paced environment against deadliness
- Meticulous attention to detail, self-motivated with a solid work ethic
- Strong end-user computer skills
Qualifications :
These temporary, part-time contract positions will require onsite training and a combination of hybrid onsite and remote work. Non-local candidates with knowledge of Texas politics are welcome to apply. I want you to know that current journalism and information science students with experience are welcome to apply.
The expected duration of this contract will be 6-8 weeks.
