BASIC PURPOSE:
The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for the administration of medication, coordination of services to residents to include clinic responsibilities, and provides direct supervision to CNA's/Med Techs under the direction of the Resident Care Director.
MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Oversees care management of residents, ensuring appropriate information is communicated to the Resident Care Director, family members and physician. Asses quality of care issues on a continuous basis though conducting rounds monitoring resident care, documentation and follow up
- Assessment and documentation of acutely ill residents or incident related problems.
- Reports any changes in physical or mental health of residents to physician or other appropriate staff member.
- Maintain an accurate charting record.
- Communicate any appropriate clinical information.
- Assist with TB, flu and pneumonia administration as directed by department director.
- Assist with ordering supplies for office or clinical use.
- May assume responsibility of filing in for any position as needed.
- Works towards maintaining each resident’s self-respect, personal dignity and safety.
- Assist with staff interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations and progressive discipline as directed. Responsible for new staff orientation, develop and implement training programs. Supervise and motivate staff to ensure the provision of high-quality services are delivered.
- Record on attendance records/call in log as needed.
- Assign and reassign any staff shift responsibilities as needed. Assures all shift documentation and reports are complete and conveyed to the on-coming shift including status reports and acute charting.
- Investigate abuse/neglect, grievances and family concerns.
- Monitor and counsel medication technicians to ensure compliance with company policy and procedure on medication administration.
- Complete monthly MAR turnover.
- Complete resident assessments as assigned.
- Complete admission and discharge paperwork as delegated.
- Monitor and communicate ADL needs of residents on admit and with any changes.
- Supervise personnel in other departments as needed with regard to the delivery of services to ensure a safe, clean and pleasant environment in the facility.
- Performs other nursing services and responsibilities as assigned by the Resident Care Director or Administrator.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a well-lighted office area and/or neighborhood
- Low exposure to infectious diseases
- May stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the workday
- Must be able to lift at least 30-40 pounds
- Good planning, initiation, delivery and evaluation skills with regard to nursing care
- Knowledge of documentation requirements related to timeliness, accuracy and completeness
- Working knowledge of State regulations as they apply to the assisted living setting
- Exposure to peculiarities in behavior and reactions of the aged, including combative residents
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse
North Carolina
Experience: Must be 21 years or older. Must have at least 2 years of previous work experience in geriatric nursing.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
